NEWARK — A Newark woman was treated and released from Grant Medical Center after she accidentally shot herself in the leg Tuesday evening.

April Wilson, 22, initially told Newark police a man jumped out of some bushes, she went for a gun and he shot her, Newark police Sgt. Scott Snow said.

After police confronted her with contradictory evidence, Wilson admitted she was handling a 9 mm Hi-Point firearm and shot herself in the leg at her home, 203 W. Locust St., at 5:07 p.m. Tuesday, Snow said.

Wilson was transported to Licking Memorial Hospital then transferred to Grant Medical Center, where she was treated and released Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

my wife did her med school rotations in Flint and last year a lady came in the ER with a bullet wound in her bottom side. She was sitting at her dinner table eating while the person in the appartment below was cleaning a rifle (thats what he said he was doing)...needless to say he was doing something with a loaded gun that is a big NO NO!!

I heard a story of a police officer that shot himself in the leg as he was holstering his gun. Had his finger where it shouldn't have been and didn't put it on safe. heard it did a nice zipper wound.

safety safety safety.....

Yeah, although pretty stupid handling a Hi-point is not a crime. It should be though.
