I have a Ruger Super Redhawk with a 2x Leupold. It's a nice set up, but I'm not comfortable hunting deer with it.
Does anybody have any experience/suggestions for switching over to a red dot scope? I really want to hunt with my Ruger come November.

Don't use a BSA. I had one a it wouldn't hold zero

In fact when I was sighting it in the little disk with the marks for adjustment flew off because of the recoil.

I went to a Leupold and it works fine.

Just get one the can handle the kick

I put a Bushnell Holographic sight on my Smith&Wesson model 29-2. It's a 44 Magnum and it is a dual purpose gun. I hunt whitetails in the thumb and I also shoot bowling pins on a league. The sight has dot intensity adjustments so you can set it up for low light or bright light conditions. Target aquasition is super fast. It's the best thing I ever did to the gun. Especially for these 40 some year old eyes.
Good Shooting, Moose

I had an Aimpoint 2000 on my Redhawk. Pretty accurate setup- shot under 3" at 100 yards. Killed several deer with it until it finally failed after several years of use.

I have the BSA red dot on my S&W 686. Haven't had a problem with it.

Can I ask what your not "comfortable" with?
Maybe something in your technique, vision, etc?

I'm just not comfortable with the small sight window. Holding a hand gun at arms length while looking through a scope can be difficult in a hunting situation.
I looked through my buddies red dot, and it's just so much easier to find and hold your target.
I'm pretty much sold on the Ultra Dot, seems like excellent quality for the $.
Thanks for all the replies.
