I have a dealer who sends me pics of things he has that I might be interested in. I can make out that the revolver on the bottom is a Ruger speed 6 with a 2.75" barrel. I cannot make out if this is a .357 or a 38 spl model. Can anybody tell?

Most likely a .357 possibly even a 9mm (pretty rare). They did come in a .38 spcl. but I've only seen them in blue not stainless. If the price is right I'd snatch it up, they are great guns and that one looks real nice.

If you don't get it, mind forwarding me his #?

edit: it seems they did do a stainless in .38 spcl. so could be any of the three calibers.

Hard to tell with that photo. Wouldn't it be easier to ask the dealer ?

He wants $250 for it. I'm getting it regardless. It has never been fired. His son in law took the pic and said that he thought it was a .38 spl. It might be a .357, I just wondered if anyone could tell by this picture.

Looks like a fairly rare factory, "Bobbed" hammer. Jump on it at that price, and it should have the box if it is unfired. Hammer description, along with serial number, should be on the box sticker.
Great find!

$250, don't care what caliber it is, I'd take it at that price.

If its a .357 , that thing will kick hard in the hand with the small grips from the factory. I used to own a security six with fixed sights, 4 inch that was great with .38spcl but tended to bite hard with .357. Would be nice to have to fill a gap in a Ruger collection, good price, good luck.

Shuvel,
Are you sure you owned a Security Six with fixed sights? That was most likely a "Service Six".

No sir, a security six. Some of the early models had fixed sight on them and abit harder to find which I did not know at that time (late 80,s). I still have a picture of it in my stuff. That was my first revolver in high school and I carried it every time with me into the woods when I lived in Illinois, sometimes miss it but now I have a gp100 with 4 inch barrel. Way superior. Its listed in the big book Gun Identification and Values that way, I think the fixed sight added an additional 20% or something to it. Looked at that barrel many times cuz any performance article on the Security would get my attention and I would not see a fixed sight .
