Since they're still in business, why don't you suggest that your friend call them? Here's a link to the service section of their web site: http://www.ithacagun.com/serviceoverview.html

The new Ithaca company has no connections to the old Ithaca company. If the action is tight it does not double when one trigger is pulled, it should bring a couple hundred dollars any day, more depending on the enthusiasm of the buyer. Some will poo-poo the 16 guage because of ammo cost vs 12 or 20. I had several similar 16 doubles brought in recently for refinishing and refreshing so they are still out there working.

If its the Flues model, which I think it is it was made in 1914 according to the serial #. $300-$600 in good condition. Gotta love those 16ga's. Greg

I had one of these in 16 a few years ago. Nice gun, a bit heavy and long in the barrel, but well built. Mine was in similar condition and I purchased it for $300. I sold it for that amount as well.

my uncle has a gun that looks identical to that, except its a 12 gauge. He was told that he couldn't shoot modern ammo out of it... I have no idea whether that is true or not.

By chance did you see the word Lefever on the barrel also?

It is a Ithaca Flues model. Check the barrel by the breach to see it it says smokeless powder steel. If it does it should be safe to shoot with modren shell. However the chambers may be 2 & 9/16 in lengh do not shoot 2&3/4 shells out of it.

If the barrels say Fine damascus they are black powder only.

In pic 4 it looks like the hammer pin is walking out or to short. Also is there a hole behind the triggers?
