I am looking for a modification kit that changes the .45 to a .22 caliber. Cabela's used to have them in their catalog but they are no longer listing them.

I wrote to the gun manufacturer and all they would tell me is not to modify the gun.

I do target pratice and the .22 is much cheaper that .45 bullet for target practice.

I know there is some kind of kit out there because the Navy used them in boot camp.

If anyone knows of a mod kit, please let me know.

Thanks,
Sean

These guys have been reviewed several times in some of the major gun rags. I haven't heard anybody talking bad about them.

Ceiner makes a conversion. So does Kimber. CMP had some Colt conversions. Don't know if they are still available.

Try Sportsmans Guide. I think that was where I saw a conversion kit for 1911 government model a few days ago.

Yep. I just checked it and that is correct.

I have one I got from Wilson Combat and I like it. Works well with good
ammo.

Another crack like that, bucko, and I will personally arrange for someone to snatch you up and drop your scrawny butt on that 100 mile long iceberg that we've been hearing about with nothing but a very long oar and a couple of frozen Stoeffer's pot pies! :P

Overall the Marvel kits are the best over the Ceiner kits. Older Colt kits, like the ones CMP was selling (yes they are sold out) are good but need to go on a Series 70 or earlier gun. Kimber's are good but somewhat finicky about ammo (but then, aren't we all).

I agree, the Marvel kits are best; Avaialble for optics or iron/fiber optic sights.

I have a Marvel conversion, excellent but expensive. If you just want one for plinking / practice the Ceinier unit should be cheaper; for serious target use the Marvel cannot be beat. I liked it so much I now have mine on a dedicated 1911 frame. Make sure you order extra mag(s) with the unit.

The Marvel can hold 1/2 inch at 50 yards with subsonic (match) ammo, they print outstanding test targets with inexpensive CCI Standard Velocity.

Mine wears a red dot scope, I now need an iron sight setup but cannot decide if I should stay with the 1911 or get one for my Glock frame. Or maybe both . . .

Marvel has two units now, one more expensive and accurate, the other is less expensive and accurate.
