It looks like he even had his partner check to see if the chamber was empty.
Hard to believe that he was going to try to continue his presentation after bragging that he was the only one "professional enough" in the room to handle a .40.

It took a while to download...about 20min on a T1 connection at work.

Scary to think that:

1. The guy checked the gun his self.
2. His partner checked it as well.
3. He ******* shot his self because he broke the rules.

ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

He must have had one in the mag when he hit the slide release.

What do you think the kids thought after that little presentation?

I'm betting this was staged...with a blank for dramatic effect.

I find it interesting that nobody in the room panic'd...covered their ears afterwards...nothing! Where did the bullet go? Who was the guy that the officer reported his "AD" to...that walked from the back of the room, then calmly turned around and walked away after being told what had just happened?

His message was not to play with guns...a 16 year old just got killed playing with a gun...he is a professional...OOPS!!! See! Don't play with guns!!! Staged...

If not, I don't think he shot himself...the soft, warm mushy stuff in his pants afterwards made him walk funny...!

I'm not so sure...How would you get the school and the parents to allow a fake shooting in a classroom? Much less unholster a real gun. There would be outrage.

OHHH the horror, the humanity!! Who do the parents send the professional counseling bill to?

Not staged.
This link is not who I would normally rely on for news reporting, but the story is a little old and is no longer available on the mainstream sights.

DEA Agent Shoots Self During Gun Safety Class

POSTED: 11:27 am EDT April 30, 2004

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A federal drug agent shot himself in the leg during a gun
safety presentation to children and his bosses are investigating.

The Drug Enforcement Administration agent, whose name was not released, was
giving a gun safety presentation to about 50 adults and students organized
by the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association, witnesses and police said.

He drew his .40-caliber duty weapon and removed the magazine, according to
the police report. Then he pulled back the slide and asked someone in the
audience to look inside the gun and confirm it wasnt loaded, the report
said.

Witnesses said the gun was pointed at the floor and when he released the
slide, one shot fired into the top of his left thigh.

"The kids screamed and started to cry," said Vivian Farmer, who attended the
presentation with her 13-year-old nephew.

"Everyone was pretty shaken up," Farmer said. "But the point of gun safety
hit home. Unfortunately, the agent had to get shot. But after seeing that,
my nephew doesnt want to have anything to do with guns."

The agent was treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center after the April 9
shooting and returned to work, DEA special agent Joe Kilmer said.

Police ruled the shooting was an accident, but the DEA headquarters in
Washington was still investigating, Kilmer said.

Evidently, he DID unholster a "real gun" in the classroom! Good question...I wonder who they did send the professional counseling bill to? LOL!

A buddy of mine was telling me of a firearms instructor that did something similar...he was casually "showing off" his competition, hair trigger modified pistol to some of his students before (or after) a class...check this out! Hands it to one of the students and tells him to check out the trigger...oh, it's unloaded, don't worry...see...go ahead, give it a try...it's nice...smooth...short pull...BANG!!! He had purposly loaded it with blanks to make his point...never assume a gun is unloaded and safe nomatter WHO tells you it is! Everyone in the room learned a valuable lession that day...bring a clean pair of underwear to class with you! (and don't assume a gun is unloaded and safe!)

Maybe this one is real, based on Kurt's link/story. I just found it hard to believe anybody could be that ignorant, caught on camera...it just seems so "set-up"...maybe not though...either way, it was entertaining!

I sure would have bet this was a "lesson"!
I don't know about anyone else, but I think I might have been a little more rattled than that agent was if I had just shot myself. :?

Maybe he just grazed his leg and was trying to save face after telling everyone he was a "pro"?

Stunned silence is generally the reaction to an accidental or negligent discharge. No screaming, no hollering, no crying.
It's similar to a flash/bang grenade.

Bingo

"I'm the only one in this room professional enough that I know to carry this Glock 40, and shoot myself in the leg and it won't even faze me"
