A feature where the original author of a thread can "lock" (close) his/her own topic, is now available.

The author of a given thread can pull down the "Thread Tools" menu and select "Close Thread" in the heading of any of their posts in a thread they originated. When the author makes this selection, the thread will become locked and no other replies will be allowed. A more preferred method would be to click the reply button then in the reply, briefly explain why it's being closed, then at the bottom of the reply page in the "Thread Management" section, check the box next to "Close this thread after you submit your message". When you submit your reply, the thread will become locked.

With the permission to close a thread, also comes the permission to reopen your thread. However, if a Moderator or an Administrator locks your thread, do not reopen the thread under any circumstances. Please check with the Moderator/Administrator that locked the thread if you have any questions.

It should be noted that while there is some potential for abuse, it will not be tolerated. The intention is not to limit discussion but to let the original author have some control when their thread goes astray. As a courtesy to other users and the moderators, it would be helpful if the author would make a brief comment noting the reason for locking their topic.
