I could do Thrusday 6-9:30, Friday 6-9:30 ( possibly the 2-6pm slot, depending if I can get out of work early that day ( but I am only 3 miles from RFSP when leaving work) I can also do Saturday and Sunday Morning. I could possibly do any time on the Saturday or Sunday, but I have to sort that out with my Daughter first.

MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS COMMITTED TO WORKING THE OUTDOORAMA SHOW!!!

If you would still like to work a show for MGO, I would ask that you please take a look at the Deer & Turkey Expo in Lansing that Tallbear is requesting help for in this same sub-forum. It is not really that far of a drive even from the Metro Detroit Area. Please consider lending a hand as the only way we can do these shows is if people step up to assist at manning the booths and setting up / tearing down.

Thanks again for your overwhelming response to help!!!

OK Guys (and Gals),

As Tallbear said, we are booth #5573. Parking will be $5 as stated earlier in the thread. When you arrive, go to the northwest corner of the building to door #2. Exhibitor Services will be located there. Give them your MGO screen name, and they will issue you your badge. Proceed to the booth, and please try to be there 5-10 minutes before your assigned shift. If you have any issues, call me at 517-404-1908, and I will assist you. Please print off this email, and the schedule on the first page of this thread so you have them. You can go to the link in the OP for directions to the venue. Thanks again for all you do!!!

I agree, it is a whole different experience when you get FTF with people at shows, rallies and other events. If all you know about MGO and what the public is thinking is based on what you read here on the forums, you owe it to yourself to get out and do it for real.

Had a really good day in the booth on Saturday. Collected lots of signatures on our petition, sold some merchandise, answered a ton of questions all over the board from folks stopping by and we handed out tri-folds like crazy.

I thought attendance was a little down from last year but everyone I talked with thought I was crazy and the show staff insisted the attendance was way up. But it was a lot easier getting a parking spot this year over last year.

Having a "double wide" booth this year on the corner made a huge difference, too. It lets us get two streams of people at the same time instead of one which is very nice.

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone volunteering. Saturday's crew did a great job! Mike, Mike, Larry, Eric and Carl had everything under control and represented MGO very well. Carl (SeeTee) especially has gone above and beyond for the show this weekend and things definitely wouldn't have gone as well without his help.

Thanks, everyone!!

Having a "double wide" booth this year on the corner made a huge difference, too. It lets us get two streams of people at the same time instead of one which is very nice.

Compared to the small table we had at the Woods and Waters expo last fall the large table was great. Also being on the corner allowed us to pull people in from multiple directions.

It was a lot of fun. I find it interesting to talk to people and hear their comments, thoughts and concerns. I always walk away from these types of things both a little dumbfounded and inspired by the feedback I receive. I hope that the people I talked to on Saturday learned as much from me as I did from some of them. Each one of these I do I feel that my ability to articulate what we do and what we are about improves.

I joked with Carl about him wanting another gun as well but I am glad he showed up. I know how the to work the table but had not dealt with the sale items before and did not know the location of several items and would have had to stumble through the initial setup.

I personally want to thank all of you who worked the show and help keep MGO "front and center" in the outdoor and shooting community. I especially want to thank Carl (SeeTee). He really took "ownership" of this event on behalf of MGO. He showed up everyday to get people going and explain the details about the booth to those coming in for the first time. Thanks Carl!!! Now, to that end, here are a couple of things I got feedback from that need to be addressed for the next show (some of which are already being worked on):

1) We need our TV monitor working and scrolling the MGO fun shoots/events. Johnzilla said he would work on this for us.

2) We need a published booth set-up manual/merchandise/price list and inventory/expense sheet for the merchandise. We also need to explain from shift-to-shift how we are securing guns and getting them displayed the next day. Tallbear took some pictures of the set-up booth, and I think that is his intent (to do a manual). We will add the rest of course.

3) We need to overstaff a little more with the bigger booth. We were fine until we had 2 people call of for one shift. Luckily, SeeTee filled the void. That adjustent falls to me, and I will work to correct that. Additionally, I need to make sure I have a "seasoned" booth person to work every shift (and protect against call-offs).

All-in-all though, it was a GREAT show!!! It was nice to just be there for set-up and tear-down and just check in with the booth people every now and then. I purposely stayed away to see how it would fly. I am going to be working with SeeTee on a lot of things, as he seemed to grasp our needs quite well, and hopefully, we can have everything ironed out before the next show. His input was invaluable.

Thanks again all!!!

Barrettone

Positives I took away from this show:

1) The larger booth on a corner gave us the room we needed and a better traffic pattern.

2) The new artwork was well received, and did not look "clutterred" on the backdrop.

3) SeeTee could be an invaluable asset for our other shows (we might double his pay).

4) Many hands make for lighter work.

The show could not be done without all of them, some stayed for extra shifts, Eric came in on his own for today and filled in for two no shows, Bill showed up with his family the next day after he worked the show and dropped of some water for the crew, that is what MGO needs more of, people stepping up on their own to help get things done!

Well done guy's it was a pleasure to work with all of you!

Some stats on the show, we gave out 2/3 of a case of MGO pens, 2 boxes of pencils, ( not really sure how many that was, it sure was a lot!) well except for the 15 pens and 3 pencils left over for the next show.

Gave out at least 1500 tri-folds
Unknown number of MGO cards
Most of a case of Appleseed tri-folds

Sold over $200.00 of MGO gear

Collected over 700 petition signatures

At least 17 contest sheets were filled for the Guess the number of .22's game

Made personal contact with a very large number of the public who did know about MGO

We got many many thanks from people after talking with them and giving them information and pointing them in the right direction to find out more.

The corner double size booth worked fantastic, Saturday was very busy during the day and we needed all that space, we had 4 petition clip boards going at one time to keep up.

I KNOW we all learned a lot, the new guy's are no longer new at this, everybody learned how to promote MGO better, some learned more about MGO just from working the show.
Things can only get better if members keep stepping up like they did this weekend.
There are some things we can improve on and we will, but we did do many things very well and all of MGO can be proud of the way the Org. was represented this weekend!

TTHis may be a noob question what is an E C member..... LOL:bowdown:

While working the show the first day I was there one side of the MGO display booth seemed to be a little more popular with everyone. I really didn’t understand it. I managed to work my way over and snapped a photo from our booth. Now I understand!! Thanks guys! I'm really starting to learn this stuff!!

Now, to that end, here are a couple of things I got feedback from that need to be addressed for the next show (some of which are already being worked on):

One thing I noticed was that being on the corner, all of the MGO stuff on the backdrop (banner, logos, etc) were facing straight ahead. If you were walking by on the side, it was pretty hard to tell what the booth was or who we were unless someone got up close and saw the brochures.

Maybe we could use another banner on that end somehow? Or one of those tall table topper things that could go on the end of the table.

On the .22 giveaway, if we could have a display of the prize that is being given away, that would be big. We should also automatically include a MGO hat or t-shirt with the prize as well.

Also, there were some folks complaining that we were asking them to guess how many "shells" were in the jar but there weren't any "shells" only "cartridges". ;)

Banners that drape in front of the tables would look good. IMHO.

Good point

Maybe we could have hung one of the unused banners verticaly on the end of the main display?

another good idea

We should correct that & they complaned when I told them they had to guess the number of lead & copper plated "cartridges" like we were trying to trick them or something

Being a first timer working the show I found it interesting what seemed to attract people to our booth. The guns on the table seemed to work well. There were a number of folks that wanted to know if the .22 guess would get them one of the guns. I got this question a LOT. The .22 cartridge guess is a good attraction to all ages. I found that this attraction would frequently draw younger folks and their parents. This would allow me to offer one of our tri-folds and ask if they had seen our petition.

Here are a few suggestions from a newbie:

Have a data sheet for the guns on display giving all the details.

Maybe a larger backboard display that has a sign stating, “Ask Us About The Petition and Why It May Be Important to You!”

We might want to have some other game for a more immediate win of something. One of the “spin the wheel” things for a pen or pencil?

There was a booth with air gun shoot for the kids. A few had stopped by to show us there targets from the air gun shoot. Might we make a deal with the folks that have the air gun booth to allow us to give away ticket for someone to shoot at their booth as a prize?

I'm confused John. If the winning prize isn't a hat or T-shirt, what is the prize for the closest or exact guess?

At Outdoorama, the display sign said we were giving away either a Gerber folding knife or a Surefire flashlight. I don't know any other details about it. I'm just saying that we should include a hat or a t-shirt as well so that they get a reinforcement that it was MGO where they won, not some generic contest.

The first question I got re: the .22 game was not "how many are in there" or "do you know how many are in there" but "what do I win". We should have a display that makes it clear what they win so we don't have to keep telling them and instead can answer questions from other people. A lot of what I was saying on Saturday was explaining the .22 game to people. That's OK, but I'd rather be talking about the petitions and other stuff MGO is doing.

Have a data sheet for the guns on display giving all the details.

Having people stop and ask opens up a dialog, thereby attracting people that might have just read the fact sheet and moved on.

I spent most of my time at the other end of the booth, the Piece Keeper gun lock caught the eye of a lot of people as well.

I had to explain the .22 guessing game to a few also, but it was a great hook to talk about MGO and it got many to take the tri-folds and sign the petition. A bunch of them also said they were going to visit the website.

How many were there anyway!!!!!

I don't know much about AR's. As John pointed out, I would rather talk about MGO and the petitions. If someone is taking the time to read something at the tables I wouldn't let them walk away without offering a flyer or asking if they seen the petition. I think this is more productive than explaining I don't know the details of the guns. But again, being new at this stuff maybe I have it wrong.

I wasn't thinking of the people working the booth, that may be something that should be incorporated into the manual that is being assembled.

Nick...I got a vendor at the show to pony up the prize choices. This is a "giveaway", not a "raffle", hence it is permissable. Prize value is +/- $100. Hope this clarifies.

The purpose of the guns is to draw them in and establish a dialogue. A lot of working a show is answering a repetitive question, as that is how you design the booth. You WANT them to have to talk to you to get information, and that opens things up. Same thing for the .22 game. I agree that a board that asks: "See how our petition affects you" would be very effective in raising another question. Answering this/these "loaded question(s)" is just part of the beast. If you don't like answering the same question over and over again, then it might not be for you. If the people are coming up to you and asking YOU questions, you are doing it right (Marketing 101). Hope this clarifies...

You hit the nail on the head. The more people that ask questions the better off you are.

Every one just needs to learn how to take the questions and turn them into discusion about MGO. Also if people are not stoping and talking it is good to learn how to kinda jump out and start talking to them.

I can't wait for the next show. I am getting better at it with every one.

I almost think we need a S.O.P. for the workers for the show. Kinda like the video but maybe in a writen forum.

I worked the booth Saturday morning and the guns were a big draw. Kids would bring the folks over to look at the guns and the wood AR got a lot of attention from the adults. From there it was easy to talk about MGO and the petition. I had such a good time I stayed for almost all of the second shift as well. I will sign offer to help at more of these as we do them.
