Well,

Review:
454 ruger 2 1/2 barrel
6 shot
(Monster):score:

I had it two days now and it a blast to shoot, ammo is pricey, but shooting JHP hornady 300G is about the best.. i can shoot 45 Long colt in various grains..
Shooting 45 long colt 325 +p ammo Hurts, but 300 is no joke either..

I love this gun...Being it my first revolver action it get a big Thumbs up from me.:pepsi:

The other day when XD was shooting his 454 little cannon at the range, I happened to be in the adjacent lane next to him... LOL ... Forget Ear Protection.. I needed anti-vibration protection as I was feeling the shock waves in my chest from the litlle controlled explosion in his cannon.. :bfg2:

If this is what you get by standing next to him.. You don't even want to think for a second to be standing infront of him :scatter:

doesn't the 2.5" barrel defeats the pupose of having large caliber wheel gun?

Well that depends on what the POU is...

in this case there are three things ...
1) Protection in the back wood from bears/cougers (if i go hiking in that area)
2) Human factor:getsum2:
3) Just Fun to shoot.:pistols:

I guess if you were hunting, then yea short barrel would be point less.

I have a 6" raging bull in 454 for personal defense (from predators....not people...calm down :hick: ). Even though its heavier weight and fantastic porting make it easy(er) to shoot, I still would rather have this exact pistol. MUCH smoother DA trigger, much more compact, far more robust, and of course, one more round in the cylinder.

I have to ask though, what is the shooting experience really like with this? With my bull, the porting does a very good job of keeping the muzzle down. If you have good control (IE, not a limp wrister) there is almost no climb at all. Though, even with the squishy backstrap, it still feels like youre catching a fast pitched baseball bare handed. This all with the 300 gr hornady. The .45 colt feels like a 9mm auto.

Not really.

I have a 460 S&W Mag with a 2 3/4" barrel. With a 300gr bullet it will punch right through a 1/4" steel plate and leave a .60 cal hole!
I shot a 454 at the same plate and it hardly left a dent.

I think my 460 would put down any critter that walks this earth within 100yds.
Hitting that critter is a whole different story.

FYI: I did not buy mine to hunt.

I have some 535gr rounds that I load for this thing. It is like a 12ga slug in a pistol.

BTW: NICE Gun
I want one too! I already load 454 and 45Lc for my 460 so it would share ammo.

Well of course different round is going to perform differently.

But having large caliber in a super short barrel means a whole bunch of unburned powder is just getting shot out the barrel adding nothing to the performance of the round so one might be just better off buying smaller caliber that achieves almost complete burn in the barrel it is suppose to shoot out of.

I understand the issue of unburnt powder.
However by your logic, I should be able to get a longer barrel smaller caliber revolver to perform as well as my short barrel 460.

I don't believe such a gun even exists.

Did you ask if they had one in the back? We had some about a week ago. Cabelas has quite a bit more hidden in the back than whats on display. Not just different calibers, but totally different models.

Yeah, but ammo is WAY more than .44mag. Easier to reload with 454 casings almost non-existent.

Cabelas has 50 round boxes of factory new 454 for $50. :naughty:

(at least they did the last time I bought ammo there. Bulk FTW)

Who wants to spend $1 a shot? Reloading comes to mind now.

When my 500 eats $3 cartridges, $1 454 feels like plinking ammo. :hick:

I have an ammo can of .454 and .45lc too if anyone is interested. Id like to reload, but the up front startup cost kind of freaks me out.
