Hello, i've never shot in an idpa competition before but would like to give it a try. I live a little south of Grand Rapids and I know the south kent sportmen club has idpa shoots once a month, but I believe they shoot on sunday and that dont work so good for me. does anyone know of other clubs somewhat close by that offer these competitions on saturdays? Thanks for the help

will have an IDPA style shoot the first Saturday of every month beginning in April. Cost is $10 and safety briefing is usually at 8-8:30am and shooting is done around noon. Check out the website norgc.org

There are several shooters that shoot on Saturday at SouthKent with prior approval. You will need to help set with set up then shoot through with the Match director and the set up squad

West33, did you ever go to a shooting event? I live in Holland, MI and I would like to shoot IDPA too, it looks like a ton of fun!

For a slightly different venue, you could try USPSA (http://www.uspsa.org/) on the 3rd Saturday at South Kent. Don't get worked up about other people shooting $3000 race guns. You are only competing with the people in the division you are shooting in. So if you are shooting a Glock in Production Division for example, you are only shooting against other people with basically stock pistols.

Both sports are a good time to shoot. A typical USPSA match generally has a higher round-count than IDPA. To me, more is always better.

I might have to try IDPA at North Ottawa (http://norgc.org/) some time, but do I have to buy a fishing vest first?

trouble shooter is correct with the saturday shoots though, i have done it once and it is not necessarily the best way to go.

you dont need prior approval to shoot at SKSC on sudays, its an open event to the public. IF/when you come just make sure when your checking in to let them know your a new shooter. its $20 to shoot and a heck of a good time.

let me know if you have any questions, ill do my best to help

I just entered my first IDPA competition shoot this past weekend at BORCC in Niles, MI.

I went on Sat to help setup and shoot a round with the setup crew, got an idea of the rules and what was expected, then shot on Sunday as well. The setup crew only pays $5 for shooting on Sat AND Sun, and was a hell of a good time with some good folks.
