This was recommended to me for my new "toy". Has anyone ever used it and what did you think of it?

Sounds like an industrial grade machine oil.

A google search turned up no site advocating its use for firearms, but the ones Ive read say it can be used on metals such as stainless, cast iron, steel, aluminum, and copper, full synthetic combines lubricity of soluble oil and cleanliness of synthetic with machinability of heavy-duty soluble. It contains additives resistant to biodegradation, rejects tramp oil, and has indefinite sump life.

Was the recomendation made by the manufacturer?

CLC makes lubricants and coolants for screw machines.

There are many fine lubricants available that are manufactured specificly for firearms. On the other hand, a firearm is a machine.

tallbear do you mean clp, as in breakfree clp. The military uses the stuff it serves two purposes you can clean your firearm with it, as well as using it for a lubricant. I've heard only good things about it, but haven't used it myself.
