hey guys
I love my pistol, but Im looking to buy some kind of rifle to explore the world of hunting with,

any recommendations?

my buddy just scored by buying an 8mm ww2 era mauser and that thing looks pretty sexy.

So what kind of equipment/price range should I be looking at?

I will probably go this weekend to the mt clemens trade show and check out a few.

You need to state a budget before anyone can help you.

There is a nice Marlin 35 Remington for sale on this site for $400... that is a great short to mid range bushy kind of gun that would work great for Deer or Bear...

I picked up a savage axis (edge) in. 308 and for the price I think its hard to beat. Ugly black synthetic but it shoots great. You can't go wring with the .308 round.

I concur on the Savage package guns. Ugly, but great at putting the projectile where you want it. I have personally dialed several scopes in live fire in calibers from .223 to 30-06 with excellent groups out of brand new rifles. Feedback from the owners showed better groups after a few hundred rounds.

Ammo cheap, knocks deer down very very dependable and last forever.

That is why it is the #1 deer rifle in the world

are any of those something generally easy to maintain/clean?

I like the premise of the saiga a lot, the reliability and use of AK ammo, I may have a way to get them at a reasonable price soon too. Ive been on the phone with some family back home.

anyone have experience with them?

Nothing against the savage or the marlin, I just like firearms to be rooted from eastern europe, I like certain characteristics from there for a lot of things (cars, hand guns, etc)
