A new feature has been implemented that can pinpoint member locations across the State. Please click this link (http://www.migunowners.org/forum/VBGooglemap.php) or select "Googlemap" from the navbar then add your location to the map. In some areas, you can zoom in and pinpoint your house from a satellite photo!

I'm hearing that I need to be at least a 1/2 mile from the freeway, for a lesser chance of a B & E.

I noticed a lot of homes for sale by Middlebelt just north of 96.

Yellow will probably be the color of the pin used for "hotspots". The code for adding hotspots isn't finished yet but I'm working on the modifications as time permits.

C'mon people! Keep going! 34 pins and counting! There's still lots of you reading this who haven't made their mark yet.

Regarding the hotspots, I will be entertaining submissions to the list of hotspots. "Hotspots" will be storefronts that sell guns, gun ranges or any other place that is of special interest to gun owners and has a public address. If you want to see a hotspot added to the googlemap, please send me the exact coordinates (lat/longs), name, address, etc. in a private message. The hotspots will appear as a yellow pin in the map after I enter them into the database manually.

Three messages up:

The reason is that the current user interface does not support hotspot submissions and while I can modify the code to do it, I'm concerned about damaging the compatibility with future googlemap upgrades. So for the time being, I'm entering the hotspots in the database manually.

Make sure you click on a (your) location in the map to set the latitude and longitude before submiting your marker.

If your mark isn't in the right place, you can fix it by clicking the "Your Entry" button and re-selecting your location from the map. You can zoom in to help find your location--just click on a map location to set the coordinates before clicking the "update information" button.

Good luck on your project, Pat. I think it's a great idea. After checking the MIPSOR I was amazed how many of the perverts live in my zip code(scary). May I ask if it will be local, statewide, or national? I just pray that those two maps never get mixed-up.

Statewide. I've got that part of it done. Working on the community notifications, and some interface cleanup. I also have to write some better routines for cleaning up all the typos and other errors that are in that database. It's horrible.

But, features include:
offenders in your zip, city, or county
offenders within 1,2,3,4,5 miles of your location
ability to save two locations for easy reference (work & home)
maps showing offenders, with indications of who is a child predator
locations of schools shown on maps
links to their OTIS profile (where possible)
their photos
the ability to be notified when offenders move in or out of your area

and more. The possibilities are endless. You'll likely have reporting capabilites to show stats within your area. That's the easy part.

Get used to it. There are a few that live in the Port huron area but when you get further up you tend to drive a bit to get to group shoots and stuff. Thats to bad with all the farm like places to shoot up thataway.

I moved from the Croswell area last March 15 and don't miss it much. except for family and a few friends and the good folks of Croswell.

This new place is just as nice but has more open area and the nearest Port Huron is about an hour away.

Starcraft sits on a trailer in the driveway unless I launch. That could be anywhere from 9 Mile to Fairhaven, most commonly Harley Ensign at the foot of S.River Rd. As soon as the ramps are in I'm out somewhere. Early season usually the Detroit River chasing walleye until May. Then you will find me along the Mile Roads chasing toads.
Is it ice-out yet???;)

The ice breaker cut a path the other day, you might be able to get through that. You may need to watch out for the trees and docks that are still floating down the Grand River for awhile.

And plus, it doesn't list your location until you go there and mark a spot on the map. So right now, until you add your location, you're not listed.I knew that. But if you add yourself, either (a) you're defeating the purpose of the map by NOT pinning yourself at your proper location or (b) you're telling the world where you live, which can potentially be used by unscrupulous people to target you for burglary.

You can find Timbuktu on the map in Mali and add yourself there at anytime.Defeats the intent as identified by Knimrod in the first post of this thread.

I had one of these when I ran my forums years ago. I restricted all access (including simply viewing the map and pins) to only those people who had donated to support the forums. That way, you did a much better job at knowing those who can view other members' locations were (potentially) more easily identified, and that they were (potentially) less likely to burgle a member's home because they knew you had some legitimate info on them from the donation process (e.g., a PayPal account, etc.).

Just a suggestion, nothing more.
