Bumping to the top.

Members, this is your chance to get together with like-minded individuals (LMI) and enjoy a day of fellowship and firearms for free.

If you can't make it, don't forget to vote. Absentee ballots will be available soon. Again, if you're a Member, these are some of the perks of your membership: voting and free opportunities to socialize and shoot with other Members. This is also a convenient chance to meet MGO's board of directors and participate in a director's meeting.

Non-members and their families are welcome as well, but only MGO Members will be voting in the election.

If anyone is interested in Trap I need to know prior to the meeting by about a week. They will open the trap house and run it if we have interest. So far I have heard from Ed that he will bring his scatter gun.

http://www.lenaweeconservationleague.com/

is the website for more info on the club grounds.

ATA Registered, Throwing Whiteflyer targets, Lighted Field,
Shot size 7 ½, 8, or 9 - Target Loads Only

So, everyone understands...... The trap shooting "WILL NOT" happen unless there is a significant number saying they will participate BEFORE the meeting (by about a week).

If you can bring something, please post here or PM me. It doesn't have to be a lot or cost a lot...every little bit helps. Check the first post in this thread for the list.

So if you can bring a dish or something else, let us know!

Looking at the survey responses, it looks like about 25-30 people. I would not buy larger than 50 count of anything as it will probably be too much. Worst case, we make a run to the nearest Wal-Mart or Meijer and buy anything we need if there are more than 50.

Due to a last minute conflict at the club we will be in the first log building you come to in the driveway. The MGO Trailer and the GOSAFE Trailer and the big sign for Lenawee County Conservation League are out near the road so we should be hard to miss.

Those coming South on M-52 have missed Sutton Road if you pass Johnson's Sporting Goods at the stop light.

That would depend on "your" definition of "SE Michigan".

Adrian is east of 69 and south of 96. To many, that "is" SE Michigan.

Last years Annual meeting was at Kensington Park and the turnout was just slightly better than this year. And there was no place there to shoot after the meeting.

I guess you are right. I was thinking more Detroit area.

I did not know if there was ever a meeting in or around Flint or Metro Detroit.

I was just wondering if the turnout was a result of the population where it is held. I would think attendance would be higher if it was held closer to larger cities like Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Lansing.

I guess Adrian is better than a park with no range.

I was going to go but it is 2 hours from me. I guess it really sucks to be the guys up north (well as far as meetings go).;)

There was a BOD, (open to all) meeting in Taylor last month, at the Gander Mountain, I think 3 members showed up.
Fun shoots have been held in Burton, at Advanced ranges, Westland at Firingline, and Taylor at TopGun, attendance is a little better, but nowhere reflects the amount of members close in any given area when those events take place.

Last year a fun shoot was in Alma, center of state to make it easy for members complaining everything was held in SE Mich. And the majority of people came from the metro Detroit area to attend.

IMHO it is not the location, it's lack of interest on the part of too many MGO people I say it that way because events are moved to many locations and open to all payed and forum alike, and darn it we don't even charge for the events!

we try to move the meetings all over the state, when i was on the BOD we had a Meeting in Grand Rapids, all the officers drove to grand rapids and we had 2 Members show up and we had rented the range for a Free fun Shoot.

we can't make people go to these meetings, nor can we make them vote. we have over 700 members and only 25 vote......real scary

For future reference, what does it take to get yourself and other individuals to come to an MGO event?

A better location or type of venue, would that help. Is it the time or day of the week, is it the type of activity being presented, the cost to attend or the benefits the person received ????

What does it take to get, say 100 members out of 700+ to attend something MGO?

PS: from the north - Bay City - 2hr. 41 minutes

I have no idea how to more people to our meetings and events. heaven knows we've tried.

Just an FYI, the New BOD will be scheduling their Meetings for the next Year at their August Meeting. If you have a Place in your area that would be willing to host a meeting let the BOD know. They Might be able to put it into their schedule.

Not sure what you mean. We want as many people as possible to attend. The MGO Annual Meeting is important. Members vote on bylaws changes, elect new directors, etc.

But, we can't please everyone all the time even though that's what everyone wants and demands. We can only do what we can do with the volunteers and resources we have. If you have a location and want to have an event there or even the annual meeting then speak up and work with the directors to make it happen.

We've had events in central Michigan...I think the last two (maybe 3?) summers there have been free events in Alma. Not sure if there is one this year or not. And we've had Member meetings and free shoots at Duncan's in Bay City the last two years as well.

This coming weekend the MGO booth will be at the Sportsman's show in Clare. Will you be there?

******* shame they can't hold these annual meetings in Central Michigan, probably wouldn't be as much fun if it was well attended.
The board and you are the only ones that would show up...nice event with 7 people attending I bet.

Have you NOT read this thread and others?

People complain that the meetings are too far....so the have them way the hell away from SE Michigan and 2 people show up other then the board.

They have meetings down here and fun shoots and such and many more show up.

You would have 6 board members drive across the state just so you could be at a meeting?

BTW: This is why we need to have the meetings ONLINE so EVERYONE can attend. (Like I've been saying for a couple years now)

I love it when people move up north to "get away from everyone" then complain when they're too far away from the action.

I will be at the Clare show.... ;-) and that is 3 1/2 hours from my house and i am going to have to rent a room for two nights. We need mire people that are willing to act on what they say. Every one can complain. But if you notice the complainers for the most part never show up to any thing.

As far as the fun shoot and meeting went. I had a blast loved helping out as an RO. It was good to see the people I knew, it was also nice to meet new people. I had a blast shooting that 454. That thing is sweet. I am so buying one now. I would have ran for Tue board of directors my self but I wasn't able too due to the fact that I have been a paying member for less the a year. I will be running next year.

The strawberry Jello/oatmeal/whipped cream dessert thing was great!

Who brought that...and do you have a recipe for it?

That was my wife's, Shebear/Christine, I will have her post it. She will be glad to hear that it was a hit. :)

My .02.

This was my first time to an MGO event and my family and I had a great time. I got to meet some very friendly and just plain nice people. The food was delicious, everyone made us feel very welcome.
I was impressed with how the meeting was run. Smooth and with just enough organization to keep it from getting in the way of getting things done. I appreciated the fact that the meeting was started with the pledge to the flag and a prayer of thanks was offered before we ate.

Out on the range everyone was once again very friendly. I want to thank everyone who shared their firearms, ammo and experience with my family and I. We were all very touched with the generosity. I honestly haven't been to too many ranges (I shoot in my backyard) but the facility was great (I need to figure out how to become a member there) and those that helped as range officers kept things safe and running smooth. Two thumbs up!

As to the location... it was perfect for me! Just a few miles from my house. That certainly helped in my decision to come but I would have made a couple hour trip for an event like this. Good food, free range time, meeting great people, free yard sign... I don't know what more you can do to get people to come! The people that could have but didn't come missed out on a great time.

We look forward to the fun shoot in August and are already making arrangements to be there.

There's no calories in that, right...? LOL

Too bad I had a cookout to do at another club last Saturday. I'll try and shoot for the deal next month.

Sorry I missed it this year folks! Previous engagement kept me away. I don't care if 5 people showed up, however disappointing it would have been. I would certainly have been there otherwise, and enjoyed every minute of it.

Until the next time! :ar15:
