Website Hopes to Save Children from Firearm Accidents

34% of homes in the United States with children, have at least one firearm.

San Diego CA (PRWEB) January 22, 2006 -- Child safety organization www.playdateSecure.com has just launched its child safety website. This free web-service provides parents with an opportunity to provide and securely share details of the safety of their homes before a play date begins. Parents are invited to become a member and then prompted to fill out an online safety questionnaire. The questionnaire asks everything from important safety items such as:

Is there a gun in the house? (The Center for Disease Control and prevention (CDC) states in 2004, 111 children were fatally injured in non-homicide, firearm accidents. They also state that 2668 children were non-fatally injured in that same year.)

Is there a pool? (CDC statistics: Drowning is the second leading cause of injury, death among children 14 years and younger. And for every child who drowns, three receive emergency department care for non-fatal submersion injuries)

Parents may securely share information with each other prior to a play date. In addition, parents are given the opportunity to share vital health information such as medical conditions (allergies etc). They can also share their child’s likes, dislikes, parental controls for video games and movies and various other information which is important for parents to share.

Co-Founder Steve Lincoln says "If by our website’s ability to educate parents on the dangers of domestic carelessness, one parent secures a gun or protects a pool from child access, then our efforts will be a success.”

Playdatesecure.com is the co-creation of two fathers who realized that they new very little about the parents caring for their children while on a play date.
