I will be getting home soon and I will want to stock up on ammo. I will most likely need 22lr and possibly 9 or .45.

I like buying in bulk but I do buy so CCI or nice ammo on occasion. What place is good? Walmart, Dunhams, Dick's, local gun shops etc.?

Prices if you remember them would be nice too.

Walmart has the best pricing hands down, and they generally carry everything from SD to range ammo to the russian stuff. Availability can sometimes be an issue, but it's not as bad as it used to be.

If i'm doing the 'brick and mortar' thing, which is very rare for me considering it's almost always cheaper online if buying bulk...i wait for Cabelas to run a sale, then load up. I don't know about .22 but i've come across good prices on 9mm and .45 at Cabelas during sales.

If you can't wait, or you're not buying in bulk, the common answer seems to be walmart.

Wal-mart hands down. Sometimes MC Sports has a sale but I would say I buy 95% of my ammo at Wal-Mart.

I have seen ammo on sale at walmart fairly cheap. For any 556 ammo on the fly Dunham's. Several times I've gotten 100 round boxes for under $30. Then again I reload so I found this really cheap place right down the hallway....

Sorry....sarcasm off.

Walmart recently raised prices on a number of rounds though ... for instance, a 100 pack of WWB .38 special used to run $30.97 ... but they raised it to $36.97 recently (fortunately, it was still marked at the old price, so they had to sell it to me for $31 / box). By comparison, Meijer sells 50 packs of WWB for $18.99 a box ... and if you hit one of the 15% off days their price beats Walmart ... and if you can find boxes of Remington .38 special they are $12.99 a box.

I would let them sell it to me for the improved price ,then go to Customer Service ,get my refund ,plus 10 times the difference up to $5

Walmart 5 minutes away. for ammo, worth the drive! it wont cost me almost $20 to go to walmart to pick it up, compared to online that also has tax, my time, and a hefty shipping charge that would buy me more ammo.

I don't care if a walmart associate carried it to your front door personally. Now, if you're only buying a couple hundred rounds, that might be different.

For 22 ammo, this is still the best deal.

Case of CCI Blazer $159.99 case (5,000) shipped to your door.

They ship pretty fast. I don't think you can find it cheaper

I do that often, but shipping can quickly offset the savings. Especially with real heavy ammo like .45ACP!

When you're talking factory new ammunition, they're hard to beat on 9mm, .40S&W, and .45 ACP. Just recently have I see similiar target FMJ loads come near or under WM's prices. But figure in shipping sometimes and it can add significant cost. Reloaded/Remanufactured Ammo is a different story.

For me, the key to getting ammo cheap, is to buy when I see it on sale, not when I NEED it. I stay ahead of the game this way & NEVER pay full price.
Not saying you need a ton of ammo laying around, just a supply of the stuff you use most of the time.

Meijer in Gaylord has been beating WW significantly of late with their ammo prices. The trick is to find someone to open the case though.

Just pick up the phone on the desk there and call the manager. That's what I do. It works quite well actually. When they say "Who is this?", just say, "A customer trying to buy ammo!" :score:

You use it at bald mountain? I thought you couldnt there. Their websites says nothing magnetic.

When I come to the shop you may have to show me how I can clean after using corrosive.

8. Armor piercing, tracer, incendiary, explosive, or steel core ammo, including bi-metal jacket ammo, is not allowed. If there is any steel in the projectile, it is not allowed and/or if the projectile is attracted to a magnet it is not allowed.

lol like i said, they dont ask, i dont tell.
i usually dont hit bald mountain up for rifle though, i dont like their wheeled benches. i did go there to do sub MOA with my 700p and 25-06 of mine but the wheeled bench moved even when locked.
i had to go prone to stay on target.

rifle i do pontiac lake or OCSC, shotgun is usualy OCSC or pontiac lake as well, if i wanna do the sporting clays walk or outdoor handgun ill go to bald mountain.

as for cleaning after corrosive ammo.

windex run 3-5 patches soaked in windex through barrel
then clean as usual.

easy stuff.

I normally get FMJ stuff at Walmart. If I need HP or JHP ammo it's normally cheaperthandirt.com I compare till I'm blue in the face on ammoengine.com and always end up back at CTD. I did get the last 100 pack of UMC 9MM JHP at the Walmart next door to where I work 3-4 months ago for $24. I wish they'd get more of that in. I still need 200-300 rounds of JHP 38 Special if anyone knows where to get that locally.

If you can find it, some Meijer stores have Remington 125gr SJHP .38 special +p rounds for $12.99 a box. Every time I'm near I Meijer I stop in and have a look in the case ... have snagged 5 boxes in the Metro Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo areas thus far.

just clean the gun with windex

For the new guy who asked about corrosive ammo, yeah, Windex will work, but so will the following:

Hot/boiling water
Hoppes
Carb/brake cleaner

Windex has no special properties for cleaning corrosive salts besides the water content. I personally prefer brake cleaner because it eats everything off the steel, but you have to be careful to keep it away from the wood/finish/polymer/anything not metal.

You also NEED to run an oil patch down the barrel when you're done or else you'll get oxidation from ambient humidity. Make sure you scrub your bolt face, too.

Windex contains a substantial amount of ammonia, as does Hoppes #9.

Maybe it depends on caliber.

Walmart is tought to beat for 9mm. Nobody has posted a link to new brass 9mm cheaper than $10 for 50. Walmart has Federal for $19.99 per 100. Nearly everybody in Michigan drives past a Walmart at some point making the cost of gas a non-issue for most of us. The only thing I've seen online cheaper than that is Steel or aluminum case and some reloads. Add in shipping and your right back up to $10 for $50.

Meijer has it's Santa buck's coupons coming up, those have not excluded ammo in the past. Back when school started they had "back to school bucks" so I picked up some back to school ammo. $5 off $24.97 was perfect for 100 count boxes of WWB 9mm, no limit on the number of coupons.
