Bay City resident Scott Mueller woke up Wednesday, put on his workout clothes and let his dog out.

This day, however, he was greeted by a uniformed officer and road blocks set up around his neighborhood. He was informed he was going to have to take a different route to the YMCA.

''You don't think it's going to happen to you, in your neighborhood - a guy with a gun and setting up roadblocks,'' he said. ''It's kind of like a movie.''

And like many in Hollywood, this flick had a ''happy'' ending.

Despite a third-party call at 8:08 a.m. to Central Dispatch suggesting the resident at 1603 Columbus Ave. had a weapon and was suicidal, a two-hour standoff ended peacefully.

After reaching the husband and wife living in the residence by phone, the pair came out on their own and unarmed, police said. They were not arrested.

Police took them to Bay Regional Medical Center for mental tests, where they were cleared by hospital staff the same day. A search of the house showed there weren't any weapons present.

A conflict between the home owners and the couple apparently triggered the situation Wednesday, said Sgt. Tom Pletzke of the Bay City Police Department.

''The house owners helped them out, invited them in because they needed some help,'' Pletzke said. ''Apparently they did want them to leave. Over the course of time since they had been there, they wouldn't leave.''

However, after being released from the hospital, the two sides made arrangements for the couple to move out, Pletzke said.

This sounds like a case of the homeowner filing a false police report, and the 'guests' trespassing by refusing to leave. There is reason for both homeowner and 'guests' to be charged under the law.
