View Full Version : Did I damage my pistol??

sooo I accidentally charged(cocked? not sure of choice of words) my Glock 29 the other day, and didn't pull the trigger for about 48 hours....

Did I damage the gun/springs?

I have an aftermarket recoil spring (21lbs instead of the 19lbs stock I believe) if that matters... which I don't think it does...

Thanks for all the help in advance

No not at all. That's their normal state when loaded, and ready for use.

Yes you did. It's probably only worth $50.00 now. Since I'm the highest payer for any guns here on MGO I'll give you $125.00 cash money.

Practically everyone carries their gun cocked; it's hard to damage a handgun unless you load it with the wrong/faulty ammunition or flat out physically abuse it to the extreme.

It's ruined. I'll give you $200 for it. I need it for parts.

Cocking and leaving the gun is almost as damaging to the gun as clicking a ballpoint pen and leaving the nib out instead of retracting it....

200 sounds great, but I already told johnjak he could have it for 125....... I have to keep my word

Thanks for the input everyone!

Glock does recommend that to store it for long periods of time ,to leave it uncocked though .

48 hours, 48 years, doesn't matter, your gun is fine

product liability BS most likely, just like using reloads in guns... other brands of guns that is :hide:

I didn't know that one could do anything with a Glock to make it not work!!:)

My buddy shot four rounds of .40S&W factory ammo through a new 27 and it broke the plastic spring guide and made it stop working.

This is true. Whether you want to or not, every 48 years you should pull the trigger and empty the entire mag. Then reload and count off another 48.

Whiile not a Glock, an armorerer told me story about a Gov't 1911 presented to him for cleaning. Cocked & locked in battery in 1947 & not touched until he started working on it in 1998. This particular pistol showed no sign of damage.

You didn't harm the weapon at all. I have to give it to you, for someone new to firearms you picked one heck of a gun. G29, 10MM.

soon you'll be asking LOTS of questions on the reloaders forum, unless of course you have money to burn.

The only time my becomes uncocked is when it is being shot or cleaned.

ALL of mine are loaded & cocked = ready just in case. (That way less chance of assuming it is empty and a ND occurring .. I KNOW every gun is loaded, unless I pull the trigger)

I cocked the hammer back on one of my 1911's about 3 years ago. I don't know if it's ever been uncocked other then when it's been shot! :D

my buddy left his slide locked back with a gun lock through his magazine well on his 1911 through boot camp and SOI... so about 6 months. It shoots just like it did 6 months ago.

I would guess you could probably leave a glock locked and loaded in a riverbed for several years and it would still shoot. I would probably put some new rounds in the magazine.

Springs are worn by compressing and extending them. As in loading and unloading a magazine - - if you leave the mag loaded (compressed) it will not wear the spring, or if you leave it unloaded, no wear.
A 1911 in the cocked and locked position (or any other pistol, cocked) will not wear the hammer spring, carried mine like that for many 'years' hammer spring checks good.

It may have been defective from the start. Contact Glock, they may send a replacement.
