SAULT STE. MARIE - After a 26-year run on the campus of Lake Superior State University, the Chippewa County Shooting Association's annual gun show has basically outgrown its former home.

“We can only get 60- 63 tables at the college,” said Club Spokesman Fred Gregg, adding that there will be approximately 80 tables when the doors open at the new site on Saturday.

The Quality Inn and Conference Center will host this weekend's gun show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

“I think we've got better parking,” said Gregg rattling off some additional advantages, “and there are no stairs to deal with.”

Gregg said the gun show will provide a forum for participants to buy, sell and trade firearms. Other outdoor related items including ammunition, scopes and knives will also be on display.

“There is always other stuff squeezed in there, too,” he added.

The Chippewa County Shooting Association uses the annual gun show as a fund-raiser for the club. Money collected from the admission fee is used for maintenance and improvements at the club's shooting range.

“We will also be signing up new members,” said Gregg.

Those in attendance can also opt to participate in a pair of raffles. Gregg said that on Saturday, a brand new Ruger 10/22 - with a shorter barrel and stock - will be raffled off, while on Sunday, a $500 shopping spree at Leitz's Sport Shop will be up for grabs.

Children under the age of 12 will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
