Pheasants Forever sponsors seed giveaway

The Genesee County chapter of Pheasants Forever will hold a free seed distribution 9 a.m. to noon May 6 at the Tractor Supply Company, 4058 W. Vienna Road, Vienna Township. The seed is free to landowners who want to plant food plots and habitat cover for pheasants and wildlife in Genesee County.

Bear licenses available

Hunters may apply for a 2006 bear hunting license through May 15. Applications cost $4 and are available online at www.michigan.gov/dnr or at state Department of Natural Resources license agents and service centers.

Hunt periods this year begin Sept. 10 in the Upper Peninsula and Sept. 22 in the Lower Peninsula. Drawing results will be posted on the DNR Web site on June 5.

Hunter safety class

The Cherry Hunter Safety Program will be held from 6-9:30 p.m. Monday and May 1 at the Grand Blanc High School cafeteria, 12500 Holly Road, Grand Blanc, with the shooting range lesson from 8:30 a.m.-noon on May 6 at Grand Blanc Huntsman's Club, 9046 Irish Road, Atlas Township.

The free program is sponsored by State Sen. Deb Cherry and the Flint Area Building Trades. Hunters are required to have a Michigan Hunter Safety Certificate or previous hunting license to purchase any Michigan hunting license.
