What type of ammo is everyone running through F/A's and suppressors? I have an AR-15, probably not getting to F/A in the next 10 years (price) but a suppressor is definitely in my price range. Just wondering if I should run subsonic ammo, or if my Federal 5.56 is kosher through a can. Thanks in advance.

I don't even think many manufacturers make subsonic 5.56 ammo. There's really not much of a market for it, a subsonic 5.56 is basically a .22LR.

So in short...the full power stuff is fine, and likely all you'll be shooting anyways. If you want to be completely quiet, grab a .22 gun and cheaper can to go with it. Even the subsonic ammo is pretty cheap.

5.56/223 is a very anemic round to shoot subsonic.

Your federal ammo will be fine. Remember that most cans (.22LR from a pistol or subsonic loads in a rifle is the exception) do not produce "Hollywood" quiet shooting.

What they do:

1) reduce muzzle climb/flash better than anything you put on the end of a rifle.
2) will likely tighten up groups.
3) alter the sound so that hearing protection may not be needed.
4) alter sound so it doesn't sound like a firearm is being shot.
5) alter the sound making location sometimes difficult to determine.
