Biography
Dave Grossman
Lt. Colonel, U.S. Army (ret.)

Lt. Col. Dave Grossman is an internationally recognized scholar, author, soldier, and speaker who is one of the world’s foremost experts in the field of human aggression and the roots of violence and violent crime.

Col. Grossman was a West Point psychology professor, Professor of Military Science, and an Army Ranger who has combined his experiences to become the founder of a new field of scientific endeavor, which has been termed “killology.” In this new field Col. Grossman has made revolutionary new contributions to our understanding of killing in war, the psychological costs of war, the root causes of the current "virus" of violent crime that is raging around the world, and the process of healing the victims of violence, in war and peace.

He is the author of On Killing, which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize; has been translated into Japanese, Korean, and German; is on the US Marine Corps Commandant’s Required Reading List; and is required reading at the FBI academy and numerous other academies and colleges. Col. Grossman co-authored Stop Teaching Our Kids to Kill: A Call to Action Against TV, Movie and Video Game Violence, which has been translated into Norwegian and German, and has received international acclaim. Col. Grossman’s next book was On Combat, which has also placed on the US Marine Corps Commandant’s Required Reading List and is translated into Japanese and Korean. His most recent book is Warrior Mindset, which applies sport psychology and performance psychology to military and law enforcement.

Col. Grossman has been called upon to write the entry on “Aggression and Violence” in the Oxford Companion to American Military History, three entries in the Academic Press Encyclopedia of Violence and numerous entries in scholarly journals, to include the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy.

He has presented papers before the national conventions of the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

He has presented to over 100 different colleges and universities world-wide, and he has trained educators and law enforcement professional, in the field of school safety, at the state and regional level, in all 50 states and over a dozen foreign nations.

He helped train mental health professionals after the Jonesboro school shootings, and he was also involved in counseling or court cases in the aftermath of the Paducah, Springfield, Littleton, Virginia Tech, and Nickel Mines, PA Amish school shootings.

He has been an expert witness and consultant in state and Federal courts, to include serving on the prosecution team in UNITED STATES vs. TIMOTHY MCVEIGH.

He has testified before U.S. Senate and Congressional committees and numerous state legislatures, and he and his research have been cited in a national address by the President of the United States.

Col. Grossman is an Airborne Ranger infantry officer, and a prior-service sergeant and paratrooper, with over 23 years of experience in leading U.S. soldiers worldwide. He retired from the Army in February 1998 and has devoted himself full-time to teaching, writing, speaking, and research. Today he is the director of the Killology Research Group, and in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks he is on the road almost 300 days a year, training elite military and law enforcement organizations worldwide about the reality of combat.

Brad,

To address your concern, here is RFI's stance. We are a training company and follow the laws of Michigan when it comes to the lawful carry of firearms in the state. We expect all students to do the same, no matter the course we are offering, or hosting. If you have concerns, please refer to the Michigan State Police website, or contact a legal entity to assist.

For anyone considering going, consider this... to buy a dvd set for this presentation is over $100. That doesn't include getting to meet Lt. Col. Grossman, lunch, expo etc. Sounds to me like a great deal. I hope to be able to make it at that great price.

To anyone who is on the fence about going, just do it. You will not regret it. But be prepared to be bombarded with information. Lt. Col. Grossman puts out enough information to make it a 2-3 day seminar. Not to mention if you get a chance to talk to him one on one he is a super cool guy!

I'd love to hear him, but not in a no carry zome in arguably the most anti-gun city in the state. If you have him come to another venue in the future, I'll plan to attend.

Col. Grossman, who said, "If you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself... 'Baa.'" is giving a class in a PFZ:scratch: .

I'll have to look into going to this.

So what would happen if every CPL holder that went to this showed up carrying concealed ? Could the local PD afford or accommodate that many people in jail at once ?

I'm one of those that would love to go to this but think the location could have been chosen better considering the material covered and MI CPL laws being what they are.

So you are not going cuz you cannot be without your gun to attend this seminar, which usually is only open to LE? I guess i personally just look at the opportunity and the value that is offered to the general public to hear the guy speak. Who knows when you will be able to hear him speak next? Just my take I guess.

I look at this the same way I do the Sig Tac Aid course in Feb...i kick myself for not being able to go. Same with this seminar. Personal preference i guess.

ummm...well...yeah. Personally I dont go anywhere without my pistol. so going to hear someone speak that tells you not to go out without carrying, while speaking at a place I cant carry... well i'll let you draw your own conclusion on what I think about that.

Great training seminar. Speaker was awesome and related to the audience well.

Yes it was at a PFZ, they acknowledged that being an issue and will select a more carry friendly venue in the future.

Thanks to the RFI team for bringing Col. Grossman to the area.

I was forced to listen to his speech by the National Guard, prior to my last deployment. I was less than impressed. Of course, being forced to do something, by a unit I hated, surrounded by people I hated, MIGHT have had something to do with that...

It's nice to finally be a civilian again. 3 years active, 5 in the guard. Finally got so sick of it, I used my VA disability rating, to get a medical out. Never been happier since. Active duty wasn't bad, fun even, but the guard was the worst decision I've made in my life.

Either way, the whole sheepdog bit is about as played out as "operator," "zombie," and "Tier 1." He really needs to give it a rest, or come up with something new.

Glad it's worked out monetarily for him, though. I could never be a public speaker, or write a book.

I was hoping to see him somewhere this year, but his schedule is brutal. I did order the presentation for under $100 incluing the shipping. It's not like seeing him in person, but it will have to do.
