UPDATE

December 18th, there will be an American Heart Association 2010 standard (newest standard) Heartsaver (Adult and Pediatric/Infant) CPR AED, and First Aid class. It will be held at GB2 Tactical (http://www.facebook.com/pages/GB2-Tactical/261863280525097) in Allen Park. GB2 Tactical is MGO Member Chewy (http://www.migunowners.org/forum/member.php?u=4426) brand new store.

When: December 18th, 2011 (Exact time to be determined, I need to check on 'required' amount of time)

Where:6784 Allen Rd Allen Park 48101
(http://g.co/maps/m5kas)
Cost: MGO Christmas Special: $100

Registration: Private Message through MGO (http://www.migunowners.org/forum/private.php?do=newpm&u=3377) or via email at MGOHockey@gmail.com (if you do email, please give me your MGO handle if you have one). Once you have contacted me, I will get back to you and get your information.

I have enough equipment for 30 people (individual use instead of sharing). As of the time I am submitting this, we are working on final details to determine just how much room we will have.

PLEASE DRESS APPROPRIATELY. There will be hands on. If you are unable to get on the floor (knee, back issues etc), no worries.

Again, this class INCLUDES adult, AND pediatric/infant.

You will leave my class with card in hand and certificate. You will also be issued your own book. These are good for two (2) years from December.

If there is significant amount of interest, I can work out specials and hold classes more often.

If you are a HEALTHCARE PROVIDER, Please let me know before registering

If you have Facebook, check out their Facebook page and 'like' them. At 250 likes, they will be doing a giveaway.

Original post:
As I said, some details are being worked out. But here is what I can tell you for sure

*I am located in Genesee County, however I can travel if needed.

*The certification card is good for 2 years.

*Cost has not been determined, however I am going to offer MGO discounts.

*I will provide all books, and equipment. I do have a training facility that is near Flushing and Burton that I use. However location will be determined to best fit the class. (Including Metro Detroit)

*Because of the most recent changes in CPR, books for each student is mandatory now. It's a good read anyway. If you want the book early, let me know and I'll send it to you prior to class.

*I am pro 2a. Dependent on the facilities rules, I don't care if you carry. If you decide to OC your shotgun, I just ask that we can use you as the patient when it comes to CPR.

*The class will be this month or in December. Depending on the amount of people, we will do these more often. I need at least 3 people per class.

*If you are a bad test taker, don't stress out. Passing the test is not my goal. My goal is for you to learn something and have a good time doing that.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE POST HERE, OR SEND ME A PM

I'm interested. When you have a date and cost worked out. I live down the road so 1 or 2 day doesn't matter to me. I've had some 1st aid training in the Corps, but that was years ago and could really use a coarse like this as a start to coming up to speed.
Thanks for offering this Hockey.

I'll see how to work that out. You might have to take the full class. Depends on how the cards come, one will be Heartsaver CPR AED First Aid and the other will be BLS for Healthcare Professionals (which may not be done if no one in healthcare).

When did you take your class?

How is this different then the basic first aid/CPR course (if it is)? I had to take it every where when I had a day job and it was only a 4-5 hour course. I'm pretty sure I'm still current with that, but curious to know if this offers additional information.

I am interested in the class Hockey.

I was looking at HVA's schedule earlier this year and they had Heartsaver CPR/AED Adult and Infant + First aid in a one day format for ~$90 (IIRC). However, I can no longer find it to register. Will you be willing to do a class in the Ann Arbor area before or around mid-December?

Was it through American Heart Association or what?

AHA has changed many things from ABC to CAB and several other things.

There is Heartsaver CPR AED First Aid course, and then there is BLS for Healthcare Providers (which is still a good course to have even as a layperson).

If you take both, I want to say its like 8 or so hours. I have a meeting tonight regarding some questions so I can make this the most informative and see how I can tailor things to what some of you want.

First Aid includes bleeding/shock, allergic reactions, extremity injuries and several other things. I'll go over gun shot wounds if anyone isn't familiar with it and am also open to your ideas as well

I taught a class last night and one of the EMT students decide to drop my AED trainer and break it. So we're working on that issue right now. I have an extra one, and going to purchase another but it will be in due time.

HVA does offer that. Price changes often with them it seems like.

As long as things look good, I am more than willing to do a class down that way. I would have to find a facility that may let us hold it there but that shouldn't be too much of an issue

I did pose a question to a member here about possibly doing a class at their shop, but we'd have to work out details on that.

Definitely would be interested depending on price and location.

I'll get a hold of you on Facebook when I do the class.

To the rest of the people that PM'd me, I have saved your information and will be in touch with you as soon as things get finalized.

I work in EMS and have for about 5 years now. Paramedics like myself appreciate having people well trained and actually doing something when we get on scene. Good luck with your classes, the more trained people roaming this earth the better. Just like you wouldn't wait for the police if you had an intruder, you shouldn't wait for the medics if someone isn't breathing.

Good luck!

Brad

OK, I have a question. I see that the cards you gave us are peel off stickers. What is the recommended way to put them in your wallet? Stick them together back to back? Stick them on one of those hard plastic cards we used to get with a hunting license?

Great class, by the way. You did fine. I enjoyed the real world talk better than listening to a video

Thank you Chewy again for the use of the shop. It was a lot bigger than I thought it could be and oh man...my wallet was aching in there. I need to find out what the other department is going to require and I'll be stopping back.

PS: I hope you enjoy that warmer weather :p

Steve

Peel them apart (they're attached) and fold them from the folded section down. You can laminate it if you wish too. I know some people say you can't but you can.

Yeah, the video truthfully sucks. I am hoping AHA scales back the video in the future, but I doubt it.

Thanks again, and thanks for coming!
