My gf was recoil sensitive but really liked my Bersa 380. Enough she has one now too. They are very easy to rack the slide too.

You can put an Wolff 11# recoil spring in the LCP,and it makes a lot of difference and it isn't that hard to rack

I've had the Bersa .380 since 2002 and its been very reliable. Wife just got a Taurus 738. Its tiny and has low recoil. Did have an ejector issue (ejecting at forehead) that was fixed in a week. Wife rented LCP, and S&W Body guard as well.

Have a Taurus PT 58 for sale that your wife (or yourself) may like- it's a little larger frame than most .380's, which does result in less recoil. Has 3-dot sights, ambidextrous safety and comes with XTRA mag., in Excellent condition @ $365. If interested call me at 734-775-9187.

Friends don't let friends buy Taurus. Or if you sell a Taurus to someone, they won't be your friend long. I have a pair of PT-22's that are paperweights

S&W Bodyguard.380 has less recoil than the LCP. The grip is slightly longer, allowing one more finger to grip it. I have a friend who's wife has arthritic fingers. He bought her the BG.380 after she tried mine out first. She is 67 and had no problems with it.

The BG.380 has sights, slide locks back after last round, extra mag, laser is eh.. but it shoots just about every make of .380 round without issues.

They have a recoil calibration kit, with 11,12 & 13 # springs,it gets harder to rack as you go up in #. Stock is a 9#

Yes .. the big one was the take down pin walking. My frame/gun was replaced last year. Any SN after EAAXXXX is good. The laser is unimportant to me. What I care is that it shoots reliably.

Try the browning BDA or Beretta Cheatah, they are both steel framed and are mid sized for a .380, they have minimal recoil and you can change the grips so it fits her nicely.

Alos you might try getting her a .32 auto.

Yup. Agreed. Once you do the laser button fix it works without issues. But I never use it anyways. XS also offer big dot night sights for the BG which is what I got for mine and like it. My wife like shooting is as well (who usually only shoots the Mark III at the range)

I also got a pachmayr sleeve for it (not pictured) which makes it even more confortable in hand.

If she can conceal a slightly larger gun, consider the Walther PK380. The slide spring has a very easy pull, and the gun has very mild recoil.

I will first say I have never fired one of these pistols, but because it is a Blow back operated gun it will have a stiffer recoil spring and be allot snappier than the Locking Breach of the same .380 cal.

The BDA 380 is a blowback operated, double action semi automatic pistol. It has aluminium alloy frame and steel slide.

Edit: I carry the Sig P238 which is easy to rack and easy on the hand when it is shot. I should also say I have arthritis fairly bad and it still is easy for me to use.

Might want to have another gun on hand for her .. just in case. The .380's are not the *kindest* guns to shoot about 100 rounds for that portion of the CPL class.

If you are talking about a .380 that is a blow back style gun then you are 100% correct. Though a locking breach style gun is easier to shoot and putting 100+ rounds through it is no problem even if you have arthritis in the hands.

Since no one mentioned the CZ-83, I'd suggest it should be included in your consideration of alternatives. Costlier than a Bersa, it is a steel framed, steel slide, 380 which is similiar to the Sig 232, which is probably the best (but most costly) 380 currently offered for sale. (My opinion) The weight of it's all steel construction helps dampen recoil, and it is easily stripped for cleaning. As the barrel is fixed to the frame, it 's design enhances accuracy. If purchased used, they can be found around $300, a bargain for the quality and accuracy of this pistol...That's my :twocents: offered for your consideration..Joepistol..:pistols:

I found not having the extended mag not a big deal at all. The gun is so manageable and mild, that especially using two hands it locks in very comfortably and fits like a glove.

That Equinox is a nice looking gun.

I agree that you don't need the extended mag except to have another round to fire. If you get the mags for the old Colt Mustang which I have had no problem with in my P238. The only issue some may find is the floor plate of the mag sticks out in front of the grips front strap. This can be easily ground down and refinished, though I don't find it to be an issue for me.

You may also want to look at the Nitro with Rosewood grips.

Yup, your right. I didn't think about the extra round availability in the extended mag. Here's the gun. I'm about the order the stainless trigger for it today.

While looking at all the models offered in the 238 lineup, I concluded the 238 HD was the one .The HD has a SS frame instead of aluminum,& several tests of the 238 I read stated the HD was better balanced / more managable with the additional 5oz weight the SS adds to the aluminum framed model.Apparently this is a well known fact, as the HD model was the hardest to find in stock @ the places I looked. I ended up with a used 232 ,as I fit my large hands better.
It's a Sig, so you'll be happy with whichever model you choose! Joepistol..:pistols:

Thank You, I just ordered a stainless trigger for it from a small machine shop in Oregon for 40 bucks. Damn Sig charges a nice price for these guns and then puts in plastic triggers. They kill me with that stuff. Like using the polymer recoil rods in some of their guns.

The spring housing is also plastic on the P238, but that is all. Be careful with the pin that holds the trigger into the frame. Mine didn't want to come out easily.

I found out about that pin. Actually Doug from this site is going to get that pin out tomorrow or Tuesday. I tried, but I did nick the frame ever so slightly, so I asked if he would give it a try before I really jacked it up.

Once the pin comes out it doesn't look like there's anything to it.

Watch those Colt mags, the followers have been redesigned on the Sig mags to not nick the feed ramp. After a while the ramp will develop a burr on the right hand side.

I've seen the You Tube's on it. I'm sure it depends on the gun.

There's a dude down in Ohio that has the new ones at a reasonable price. I'll check when I get home.

That I think was with the pre-2010 models of the P238 that the nick was happening and I don't think it was with the Colt mags. If you look at the front of each mag the Sig has a steep cut where the Colt goes straight across. I believe they had to change it because of that.

czeck out the cz83. Nice work horse of a 380. Nice grip which makes allot of difference, nice heft. Not small like a lcp but its not exactly giant.

I have been looking this past year at getting my first pocket gun, could go 9mm, which if i do it will likely be a khar CM9, and 380 there is a whole host of interesting possibilities like the sig p238, maybe a masterpiece arms 380 or NAA piece.
