Good deal. They are striking the "contiguous state" language. We will be able to buy at any FFL in any state that allows it there. And the same would apply to residents of other states here.

This looks like win-win, no other changes, just opening the law up.

Would you be able to get a rifle shipped to your house then or would it still have to go through a FFL dealer? And also would other states still turn down the sale?

It would still follow Federal Firearms Laws..So If you at a FFL, under federal law you Fill it out there and take it home, Like if your in Ohio comming back to Michigan.

Well, they amended it, so another delay, but the amendment appears to be a simple fix-a-typo, so they didn't gut this one.

I just wonder why the firearm and knife legislation is getting all of the attention NOW. Are they trying to appease someone in the 11 hour? They are not making a lot of people happy with the repeated rewrite of some of these bills.

This bill is now on third reading.

It is a good thing that it did, it is such a small change it will not have much of an effect on anything.

But "they" will be able use it to claim that "they" are "pro-2A", while they trash everything else.

But if it gets signed into law, it would enable us to purchase & receive a long gun in any state that we have reciprocity with.
Right? I'd say that is pretty good for those of us that travel.
Bud's here I come.

This has nothing to do with reciprocity. It means you can purchase a long gun in any state that also allows sales to any other state.

This bill was signed into law. It goes into effect on one of two dates. Either Jan 1st, or April 1st depending on whether the legislature passed it with "immediate effect".

So just to be clear, now that it is The new year. I am fine to purchase a rifle in Ohio this weekend? Just as long as I abide by Michigan laws (and local Ohio laws of course). And was there a distinction between FTF purchases verse going through a FFL?

All Interstate transactions MUST go through an FFL.

The changes that this bill puts in has no affect in the way things have always been with Ohio.

This change only removes the "contiguous" States limitations, and makes it so we can do the same in any State that allows it.

Ok, thanks for the quick reply.

So the change opens up the option of finding a rifle when I am on vacation in say Kentucky at a gunshop, I can legally purchase it.

Yes, as long as it is not in violation of either MI or KY State laws.

This does not allow purchase from a private party without an FFL. But if an FFL were willing, the FFL could be in Either State.

I was in Nevada last summer and asked about purchasing a rifle there. They knew I was out of state. They said it was perfectly legal. This was at an FFL.
