Weapons; licensing; exemption to carry concealed weapon without a permit; provide for corrections officers under certain circumstances. Amends sec. 12a of 1927 PA 372 (MCL 28.432a).

I think we should concentrate on legislation that will help all of us. This kind of thing only drives a wedge between gun owners.

I'd like to add just one amendment... Allow ALL citizens of MI to carry concealed or openly without a permit.
Not just limit it to corrections employees.

doubt this will go through... the legislature isn't really to keen on doing anything that is good for us..

This appears to be cleaning up the Act and directed to give the employer (Michigan Department of Corrections) more control over employee use of Department issued permits/authorization to carry a firearm. The employees are not issued a regular CPL but, one issued by the Department of Corrections under strict control. They permits have an entirely different look, different training requirements and frequency, and penalties for improper use.

But, what special firearms training or weapons cards do ALL corrections officers have?

they dont. being pistol qualified for the department is voluntary. but this bill would apply to the officers that have had the Initial Pistol training (just under 1,000 rounds) and yearly re qual
