"The M1 for Vets program was started in Nov. of 2005 to provide an M1 Garand rifle for our severely injured vets returning from the war on terror; many are missing arms and legs or have other severe injuries. To date, this nationwide program has presented 67 rifles with many more being readied."

You can download the flyer here (http://www.migunowners.org/temp/MIs_for_Vets_Flyer_3-24-07_MPRC.pdf).

**At the December 2006 match, they surprised shooters by providing a huge pot of great "possum" chili, hot coffee, and rolls. May happen again! Although it is called a Garand match, Springfields were added to allow people to shoot twice which brought in more money for the cause. k

An absolutely great match yesterday. We started in thick fog with chilly temps, and ended in face-burning sunshine and 61 degrees. The first relay could barely see their targets.

This event is really taking off. The MPRC has set another range record of 50 attendees, besting the previous record of 30 set last December at the first match!

Food was provided (in spite of what the flyer stated) of two commercial-size pots of chili and chicken gumbo, cookies, and brownies. There were lots of handouts provided by the CMP. We even had several spectators at this match.

The best part was the surprise presentation of an M1 at the beginning of the event. The recipient was completely surprised since he was not informed he was receiving the rifle at that time. After the match was over, he was given the opportunity to shoot his 'new' rifle. He was absolutely thrilled. This recipient had received burns over a large area of his face and body, and lost a finger on his shooting hand, but was able to load and operate the M1 very well in spite of his injuries. It was the first time he had ever shot an M1.

Aside from a fun match, plenty of trigger time, and great camaraderie, it was heartwarming to be there to see this young man be presented with his M1.
