The next Rifleman's Challenge is scheduled for March 17th at Centerlne of Calhoun County. If you've been missing these, you've been missing a lot of fun.

The Rifleman's Challenge is all about testing what a rifleman can do with his rifle. It is not an equipment race. It is a test of personal skill. The Challenge is not easy, but it is fun. It does not matter what your skill level is. We do not care if you are a casual shooter or a professional trigger puller. It is not about putting one shooter against another, it is about putting yourself up against yourself. The Challenge requires that you give 100% to the courses of fire. If you can do that, you have answered the real challenge. If you find that you need improvement, that is something else all together, and we will be more than happy to lend help where we can.

This shoot is not about competition, it is about having a good time and doing our best to measure up to our rifles, not each other.

What is the Challenge?

The challenge is a live fire exercise made up of several courses of fire designed to test a shooters skill. some of these courses are timed, some require the shooter to fire under stress. The targets generally range in size from 3.25" in size down to 0.25" All courses will be fired from 100 yards, so in order to keep the Challenge challenging, they have to be kept on the tiny side.

What do I need to shoot the Challenge?

A rifle capable of shooting 1 Minute of Angle (any caliber except 50BMG)
100 rounds of ammunition (60 rounds are generally needed for score, but there will be an opportunity for shooters to confirm their zeros)
Hearing & Eye Protection

What else might I bring that will help?

Shooting mat
Front rest (must be either soft, ie; rucksack, sand bag, sleeping bag, etc, or a bipod)
Spotting Scope (may only be used during zeroing, may not be used during scored fire)

What are the limitations?

Semiautomatic rifles with detachable magazines may load no more than 5 rounds per magazine.
Spotting scopes may not be used during scored strings of fire.
Benches may not be used

When and where does the Challenge take place?

The next Challenge will take place at 10:00am on March 17th, 2007 at Centerline of Calhoun County (http://www.centerlineofcalhoun.org/) The entry fee is $20 per rifle

What are the Course of Fire?

In the past, I have posted the actual courses of fire, but I've decided that I will keep the stages under my hat, but rest assured, they will be fun. Just practice your marksmanship skills, and be able to hit a 1 MOA target and you will be good to go.

Looks like fun, and not too far from East Lansing. Now only if I didn't have to worry about classes and the exam & presentation I have to give the following week, I'd definitely be there.

How often are these events held??

Third Saturday of every other month.

Next one is March, then the next one after that is May.
