Hello, I'm looking to get a slim, pistol sized safe to slide under my bed or mount behind the headboard. I need it to be a quick and easy open FOR ME, not my kids. I've never done the biometric ones and don't know much about them. I want a quality safe that I can trust will open if the time comes that I need to defend my family. So, I'm looking for the opinions and advice from the mgo world on what to get. :D
Thanks
Also, doesn't nessecaraly have to be a fire box.

Batteries wear out at the wrong times.

A manual combination lock model will work.

Page 2 has the VLine 279-S, that has a manual comb lock, it can't be linked directly for some advertising reason

I have the generic gunvault brand one (like 120 dollars). I replace batteries every year, and the voltage is still good when I take them out. It also has the manual key for backup. But for simplicity I just put a bolt with a locknut in one of the mounting holes, which holds a chain that wraps around part of the bedframe and is locked with a masterlock type. Minimal install, keeps little hands and sticky fingers off. Just stick your hand under the bed, input the code, door flys open, side acces instntly. And since it is on a chain you can slide it deeper or pull it out more depending on current house situations. I do like the idea of no batteries, but the door on the vault flips open and allows side access, unlike the manual one posted.

Yeah, I'm looking for something similar. Living in a colonial, sleeping quarters are upstairs. I also want quick access for ME.

I have a Biometric and that works well, but I also have a cheap one from Cabellas that was $40 and it works well too.

I ended up with the bulldog version of the gunvault brand. It is working well so far, buttons are firm. I think the gunvault brand would be better for finding the buttons blindly, but they just had too many negative reviews on amazon to try one. It does what I wanted, fits under the bed, and keeps my burglar shooter away from my kids curious hands. It also has an internal light the comes on when the door opens, nice feature that I don't think the other brands have. As far as the battery issue, I just plan in replacing them twice a year to be safe. I purchased it on amazon, 90ish i believe, free shipping. Good value for what it is.

emt232004,

I like it. Something to look into. I have a feeling I'll have a collection of gun safes to match my collection of holsters. Need to research and find which one works the best, for me.

I saw a newer safe by GunVault that really caught my eye. It's called the SpeedVault.

I have a V-Line like this http://www.lock-depot.com/servlet/the-3583/V-dsh-Line-Pistol-Safe--dsh-/Detail

It uses a mechanical pushbutton lock. (I can't remember where I bought it but I paid a lot less than the price in the link).
