View Full Version : Ways to secure a shotgun in bedroom?

I remember seeing some sort of lock box that went around the action of a shotgun; leaving the rest of the gun exposed to see and fondle (kiddies play with slide). But if it is a pump, too keep a round from being chambered by little hande, that means the slide would have to be forward on an empty chamber (locking the slide). Meaning if you needed the gun with a round chambered, after unlocking the box and removing said shotgun, you would have to push the slide release (not so good when half asleep) , rack a round, then take the safety off.

Is there any sort of safe similar to a small pistol vault, that would enclose the entire shotgun, and could be stood vertically in a closet, or laid under a bed? Then said shotgun could be hammer down safety off; open safe, rack round.

I'd also like to hear how other people are securing their HD shotguns, as I'm looking to do so. I guess the type of secureness would depend on shotgun as well, (break single with hammer, double internals hammers, pump, semi, lever? bolt?)

Thanks.

Having to get your shotgun from a lockbox in a closet or under your bed will take more time than simply racking it.

With little ones around you may want to consider switching to a pistol for home defense. Then you can just get a small GunVault for your bedside table. I'm not trying to start up the debate of handgun vs shotgun for home defense but if you have active little ones like I do its safer and faster to get the handgun from the bedside table then trying to open a safe in the closet or under the bed when the **** hits the fan. This is obviously just my opinion.

I have a couple of those. Meijer had them on clearance a few years ago and I picked them up for $5

As for the OP question, I was looking for a similar gun lock box for my vehicle. I could not find anything that I liked until I seen this below. Very similar to the "life jacket" but MUCH better made. It is from a police car.

It's called the shotlock. It mounts a shotgun to a wall or bed and is unlocked with a code. Costco has them for $100.

I just get my shotgun out of the safe at night and put it away when I get up in the morning. Never found it hard/tedious.

Sometimes the simplest solutions make the most sense. I never thought of that, great idea!

I keep mine under the bed in a plastic rifle case with a small padlock on it, the key in my nightstand drawer. Takes me less than 10 sec to grab the key, pull out the case and open the padlock.

Every second counts. The pistol I carry simply gets stored in the drawer and leaves with me for the day.

have you tried unlocking that in the dark with your heart racing your hands sweating and shaking because of a major adrenalin dump?

Just something to think about.
