I've talked to chewy about it several months ago when I wanted to buy a striker and he didn't think he could do it for me.

Most SOT holders in MI are not DD licensees.

I want to bring in a RPG7 but I'm finding out there are very few if any DD license holders in MI.

Ask them to check their FFL, most will say - blah blah blah except DD.

Yup, exactly...thats the problem I'm running into. A standard FFL is, well I believe, are allowed 2 DD transfers a year before they need the upgraded license. Most want to save those 2 transfers for them selves. Can't blame them, sucks though! :-\

Any FFL can transfer it in for you without being a Type 9, 10, or 11 FFL/ with SOT. It will just have to go as a tax-paid transfer.

Try telling them that! Lol

So then it must be that they get 2 tax free transfers?

Is the barrel removable? If it is, your other option is to have the seller remove it and transfer it to you as a Title I gun, sans barrel. Then you do a Form 1 and remake it back into a DD with a new barrel.

Officially? No. But ATF had been known to give SOTs a pass often enough that it is kind of an unofficial policy. Especially if there are no / few DD dealers in state.

Of course with a policy like that, coupled with relatively low demand, it's no surprise so few dealers want the extra expense and hassle. It just doesn't make business sense.

I've been told that an SOT is allowed 1 DD per year without being a DD dealer. I can call the ATF-NFA branch tomorrow morning and see if they allow me to do the transfer for you. Let me know if you are interested.
