I have a Remington 700 sps tactical 308 with a 20" heavy barrel. What would be a good suppressor to look at? AAC, Gemtech... Need some advice. I'm going to have to get the barrel threaded too

Any of them will be fine. It's just a matter of which you like to look at. Personally, I'm an Ops Inc fan.

The 3rd model is direct thread on, the 12th model requires the muzzle break for mounting.

You can have the barrel contoured for the Ops Cans at www.adcofirearms.com Check out the shop services.

Regards,

RJ

Glad to help. As a matter of fact, Adco has a surefire 30 Caliber can in stock right now, if that's something you're interested in. I *believe* it's this one.

They can thread your barrel for the flash hider that surefire uses to mount these as well.

Personally, with the bull barrel, it would be really cool to just contour the barrel for an Ops Inc suppressor of your choice. If it was mine, that's how I would do it. They have a Savage 308 Bolt action with an Ops Inc 3rd model on it. Next time I'm in the shop, I'll snap some pictures of it. It's a sweet setup.

That would be great. Love to see a picture of it

All I have to say is just place your oder and when it is ready drop the rifle off and let John index the barrel and suppressor to it. If you have never talked to them about doing any work on a rifle give them a call. Not to mention the guys here in MI that have them love them, and every target they have ever showed have been impressive.

I went with the YHM .308 QD Ti can from Chewy. I have not picked it up yet as I still need to submit my paperwork for it.

Didn't make it to the shop today, but these are the pictures of the barrel contour for the 3rd model.

You can see the barrel is turned down so the reflex style can centers itself on that "ramp" about 4" down the barrel. The threads are internal on the suppressor and you get two points of contact ensuring the baffles are concentric to the bore. Along with that, you get a larger blast baffle volume with the reflex design as well.

Here is a picture of that same M70 done a couple years ago with the 3rd model in place. The suppressor looks huge, but remember, some 4" of that is covering the end of the barrel.

I like that. Did they refinish the contour? What about cleaning the can?

Typically, they do refinish the contour, either parkerized or KG. This one they did not as the "operator" likes to do his own thing.

Most centerfire cans are not user serviceable. You can soak it if you want to, but my Ops 16th model (for .223) has about 5K rounds through it at this point, and other than the finish getting a little worn down, and maybe some nylon melting to it, there is no appreciable sound degredation.

The ops cans are all stainless steel. Maybe a bit heavier than some, but still a fine can.

In the bottle neck cartridge, it's not that one can is "quieter" than another, but each one has it's own "tone." The Tone of the Ops cans is pleasing to my ear, compared to the Gemtech's and surefire's we have sold.

I know my class 3 dealer has a gemtech and AAC and he wants me to try and shoot his to see if I like them. I think I might meet him this weekend to try them out. I wish video of suppressed rifles would sound more like they do in real time. Sometimes you can't even tell from video

sas titanium is what i have along with a pierce. they are some very good cans. i personally think zaks cans are overpriced but the people that have them vouch for them. personally i would look at the sas since aina uses then i think the stand the test.

Another question:

What if I wanted to used my 308 suppressor on a 5.56 carbine? Which suppressor would be good for that? I would like a muzzle break/compensator attachment for the carbine and the attachment for the 308 doesn't matter as much.

Any of them will work. Most mfg's have muzzle devices for sub calibers.
