I have a relative that wants to use his .308 to take out a coyote that has been causing issues on his property in Lyon Twp.
Near as I can tell he is legal to take a coyote on his property and use a centerfire rifle between Dec 1 and Nov 9.
I just want to make sure there aren't any regulations I'm missing that may get him into trouble.
Does what I posted above sound accurate?

Only rimfires at night, if hes doing night hunting. Coyotes up here run more during night/early morning so I use a .22 lr kit on my AR. During the day I switch over to .223. I wouldn't use a .308 though, if your going to shoot it, might as well get some of your money back and preserve the hide $$$

Two things. It is doing damage now and the hide is not worth anything right now, no matter what you shoot it with.

Coyote may be taken on private property by a property owner or designee all year if they are doing or about to do damage on private property. A license or written permit is not needed.

From here (http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153-10363_10880_10996---,00.html)

Rifle restrictions only apply to night hunting for varmits and during firearm deer seasons. Otherwise can plug it with a 50 BMG if he wants to.
Shotgun is also acceptable to use at night as long as slugs or buckshot are not used.

That's what I said.^^

And OP, you can sell them to a shop for around 40-60 an they will turn it for 80-120 depending on quality. I have done this the last two years out west.

Hides will be up but no where to the above levels and right now are worth just about zero.

Thirty for a nice well handled pelt in late Nov would be fantastic. Probably 1/2 of that at that time.

Probably fron the same pack I have been seeing and hearing. They have been hunting my ducks in broad daylight.

Even though I have a decent size piece of property they never seem to get in position for a clear enough shot with a safe backround.

I may be willing/able to help,i'm in new hudson and do alot of trapping in the area.As allready said, fur is worthless this time of year and even when prime,mi. coyotes do not bring much money (for the work it takes to catch/skin them)so I don't spend much time targeting them. However I have and will trap them if there is a little extra in it for me.Could be money, hunting permission or if the property shows promise,i'll trap the coyotes in exchange for permission to trap the property for other animals also.Shoot me a PM if you would like to talk about it more.

Lyon Twp, is hunting allowed there? Is there an township ordinance prohibiting the discharge of firearms?
