Hello,

The US Martial Tactical Association is hosting the Martial Tactical Level 1 curriculum on September 27 at 7 pm in Birmingham, MI

Martial Tactical training focuses on reality based, armed and unarmed, practical solutions to real world close quarters combative encounters faced by private citizens and professionals. Primary emphasis is placed on tactics and applications of recommended modern daily carry items and their unarmed equivalents. This includes the tactical pen, tactical flashlight, folding knife, baton, and kubotan.

This curriculum is designed to provide trainees with improved mindset towards an assailant, as well as instill a greater sense of situational awareness. The core physical techniques are primarily percussive (striking). Using realistic targets and other parameters, the trainee is familiarized with and instilled with the necessary determination to prioritize survival in an altercation.

Requirements:

Loose fitting clothing conducive to a moderate workout.
Water or other refreshment for 2 hours of moderate activity.
This course is moderately physically demanding but you will not be asked to do more than you can handle.
Remove watches, rings, and other jewelry to prevent injury to yourself or your training partners.

Course details:

This course is two hours long.
Course will focus on tac pen, light, folded knife, and baton.
There is an intro period at the beginning including an introduction to the survival mindset.
Time is set aside at the end of the session to provide answers to specific scenarios, attacks, or other trainee concerns.
Cost is $25 per participant, payable by credit card or cash. Deposit required.
Call the Martial Science Center at (734) 646-3584 to enroll!

I got 2 questions about this:

What weapons are you teaching?
We will have tactical pens and folding knives (blades closed) on hand and will be highlighting this weapon form factor. Truth is, though, this form factor is identical to tactical flashlight, the yawara (6 inch stick), and collapsed baton. Trainees may use their own equipment or use our loaner equipment. Folding knives will have blades taped shut for safety.

What types of things will you be instructing?
We will be doing predominantly percussion (striking) techniques, but will have multiple lead-ins to grappling techniques, escape from grapples, etc.

As an aside, the entire curriculum is designed around already familiar movement. You won't leave the class doing a triple whirly spinning axe kick, nor will you learn the finer points of the Crane Stance and other archaic studies. It is designed around already ingrained movements and actions to optimize effectiveness and immediate proficiency.

Hope this helps in your training decisions!

There are 4 spots still available.

Help ensure your training in the full use-of-force spectrum is up to standards! This session focusses on not lethal intent weapon application and through parallel learning, their unarmed equivalents. Do not miss this!

We still have a couple open slots. (And let's face it, if more people are interested, we'll expand the venue as necessary.)

Call us at (734) 646-3584 for registration.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to have unarmed and nonlethal weapon training in your repertoire. This training will enhance your melee (non-ranged) weapon proficiency as well as your empty/open hand understanding. Using common weapon form factors such as the tactical pen, tactical flashlight, kubotan, and others, you will gain proficiency in multiple weapons in parallel.
