View Full Version : Will a 6mm suppressor work for 5.56mm ?

I have a 243 and 223 and would be curious whether a suppressor for the 243 would also work on the 223 ? It seems like half the paperwork and half the expense would be nice to have... The 223 should be a little quieter by default given the smaller powder charge and if the suppressor is sized for the 243 it might be a little larger than a dedicated 223 suppressor would be.

Anyone been in a similar position ?

Running "sub calibers" is pretty common practice. I haven't seen a .243 suppressor, though. I bet you could have a .223 bored out for the .243.

There are many 30 caliber suppressors that folks run on .223's that's pretty common as well. The larger volume of the 30 caliber cases (generally) require larger suppressors. So the efficiency loss of the larger bore size of the can is minimized with the larger volume.

Hope this helps some.

Regards.

Just buy a 30 cal can. Problem solved, problem staying solved!
