Oh, heck, I decided to buy it based on what I saw in this thread:

Looks like a nice system at a decent price.

Going this route for the Coke machine I'm converting into a safe. Glad someone on here has experience with the product, and favorable feedback. Thanks for sharing!

That's what I currently use and find them to be a poor solution. They are only a single point (or location) of light, so they have a difficult time lighting the nooks and crannies. Of course, you can get several of them, but they start to take up valuable room and after just a couple you are close to the price of the system linked to above.

It is all a matter of compromises, but I'm looking forward to getting rid of my "closet lights" and hopefully the system above will be a good solution.

I'm going to have to look into this idea as my "safe" has a rolled over front to which it should be easy to tuck rope lighting in all the way around... Thanks!

2 (1 per side)slimline fluorescents from Walmart $10.00 each , mounted approximately center in height behind the door jamb with heavy duty Velcro , and a motion sensor line switch .
Still ratchet strapped to a furniture dolly .

I've been using the battery operated LED tap lights in both the "puck" and strip configurations and they are just not cutting it.

I looked at the components from elementalled listed above but it appears to be about $8/ft and you still have to provide the power supply and configure it yourself. Not a daunting task but somethign else to consider.

I even looked at doing my own using less expensive components such as these:

http://www.tomtop.com/lasers-flashlights/led-strings-decoration-lights/3m-white-flexible-neon-light-el-wire-rope-tube-with-controller.html

or

http://www.tomtop.com/lasers-flashlights/led-strings-decoration-lights/white-5m-waterproof-epoxy-5050-300-smd-led-strip-light.html

but I'm not sure how bright the EL lights actually are and I still have to do the work myself and provide a power supply, etc. with the strip lighting. So, I am going to order the package from litetech, upgraded to the AC power supply. Should even come with the door switch to turn itself on.

Check E-bay for the inexpensive LED light strips, I got 5 meters of 3528 LEDS(150 total) and a power supply out of NJ for 28.00 shipped.

just wanted to update: got the litetechauto lighting kit real quick (surprised me to be honest that I got it so quick). Installed in a couple minutes, even though I didn't see any real instructions included (maybe they are online), its pretty self explanatory. lights it up real well, just need to finish tucking the excess wire and hard-mounting the battery box to be finished with it. It does stick to my safe interior, but also may run the included velcro strips for a more positive installation.

I would post pics of my safe with/without lighting.... but its a mess and needs to be rearranged.

I rigged up a couple sets of these LED strips from IKEA in my safe. Very happy with the results. I ran 3 sections on each side and 2 sections on the top. Each kit comes with 4 sections, so I used two kits for the LEDs, and run them all off the transformer from one kit (I checked the amperage, and its ok to use one, but you can easily run off two transformers)

Got a response and they sent a new light out

Liberty Safe sells a couple that are battery powered and motion sensitive so the door opening will turn it on and they'll also turn off themselves to save your batteries in case you forget.

I used one of these: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Westek-Indoor-Plug-in-Motion-Activated-Light-Control-MLC12BC-4/202524826
along with rope lights. Motion detector turns lights on when the door opens. Also put mirrored acrylic on back wall to reflect the light. Works quite well and much less expensive than factory light kits.

A single string of old christmas tree lights and some binder clips worked well for me. Cost - about $5. Still need to rig up a more convenient switch for them, perhaps a plunger switch like on a car door.

May be a bit more pricey than commercial stuff but out shines all others and will last forever. :-)

Ordered their large kit with some extra 20's, 1ft extensions, and a splitter. They recommended the splitter if you have more than 12 ft. Went in super easy and lights it up great.

I'm surprised that micro switch worked on the inside edge of the door (without getting pinched as the door is closing). If it had been on the outside edge, I would expect it to work as well as it does for you on the inside edge!

I used a motion sensor in mine (mounted in a box just inside of the outside edge of the door at the bottom). Works perfectly every time and doesn't have any connectors exposed.

I have a 58"x29"x20" safe (19.1 cu ft) and am trying to determine my needs. How many total 4-ft strips did you use, 2 or 4? Also, when you say "extra 20s" do you mean light strips or extension wires and how many did you use. Thanks very much for your original post and photos and thanks in advance for the extra info.

Sorry for the delay in answering. I used 3 total 20 inch strips and put one shining down on the top shelf, then two other shelves. I have carpeted interior so I just stuck them to the underneath. I ordered 2 extension wires.

My safe is about the same size as yours, and really it is over lit. I like to see all my contents tho do it all depends on what you prefer.

I keep a very small person in there to let me know when the light goes on/off.

When the room is completely dark, I can see light around the edges of the door when I close it (until the motion sensor times-out).

That's because the motion sensor also gas heat detection. Tom's placement put it far enough to make the heat a non issue.

I have mine off to the side and about 1' above my golden rod. I've never had an issue.

I put the same kit in my recently new 72x42x32 RCS too. I love it and will second your recommendation. Simple to setup although it took a little figuring to make the install as clean as possible. Ended up with the motion sensor on the floor close to the door and about a third of the way in from the hinge side due to the power outlet position and length of initial connection to the sensor/string splitter. Then ran 2 bars on the first string up the hinge side and 3 bars plus one in the center on the ceiling off the second string. Bright as day in there and really makes the RCS so much nicer.
