I know that you have to be 21 to buy an NFA item from an FFL, like handguns, but I read somewhere that you can buy from a private seller before you turn 21, if you are over 18, also like hand guns. Is this valid? I'm 19 and id at least like to find a .22 suppressor. Or am I SOL until I turn 21?

You are SOL 'til you are 21.

You can buy a pistol, in a private sale in the state of Michigan, because you only have to meet state law. You can not get a pistol from an FFL, because of the Fed law, which you are aware of. For any NFA item, you will have to apply to the Feds' for the tax stamp, and they follow the 21 rule, which is what they make the FFLs follow.

21 to buy NFA from a dealer. 18 to buy NFA from an individual. 18 to build NFA on form 1.

If you go the TRUST route, and if you have someone on the trust who is 21 or older, they can pick up the item when the tax stamp comes back, and you can have control of it once it is transferred to the trust.

The person who picks up the item must fill out and get a 4473 done on them when they pick up the item for a trust.

That sounds like a lot of *****g hassle. Just wait two years and then do it all yourself and buy your NFA items to your heart's content.

When considering the paperwork and expense for a NFA item it really isn't any more hassle respectively.

21 for a dealer. 18 otherwise. It IS possible. MG's might be 21, don't recall.
