Was thinking about 150 yards. Anything further and I might be out gunned?

My dad always called his/mine a "brush gun". Anything past 100 Yds and I'm looking for a more powerful rifle.

It has the capability to kill a deer out to 300 yards and more but that is not why they are so popular in MI. The 30 cal bullet is less likely to be deflected by a small twig or leaf and in a Winchester or Marlin Lever it is a reliable, fun gun.

Really. The round is ballisticly close to 7.62x39. Some say that the round is not effective past 300 yards. But with a capable rifle and shooter could reach out to farther range ( not ideal for game though) IMO not ethical to take game past 250.

75 to 100 yards depending on how much you shoot it.

Less than 30 rounds/yr=75 yds or less.

50+ rounds 100 yrds.

deer can't measure foot pounds. If you get a round through both lungs and/or the heart, they're going to fall down and die. It's all about shot placement.

That's where it gets tricky.

For a 30 30 that's sighted in at 100 yards, the bullet will drop 7 inches at 200 yards, and almost 27 inches at 300 yards. It will also be more prone to getting blown sideways if you have a significant crosswind.

Are you a good enough shooter to compensate for that kind of bullet drop and windage correction?

If so, I wouldn't hesitate out to 250-300 yards. If not, then it's a 100 yard gun.
