Application Period for 2007 Public Land Antlerless Deer Licenses Now Open

The Department of Natural Resources reminds hunters that July 15 through Aug. 15 is the application period for public land antlerless deer licenses for the 2007 deer hunting season. Public land antlerless licenses will be available only through the drawing process unless there are licenses left over after the application period.

It is likely that there will be leftover public land licenses available after the drawing in the eight Deer Management Units (DMUs) where bovine TB in the deer herd is found. Outside those eight DMUs, very few DMUs are expected to have leftover licenses available so hunters should not expect to receive a public land antlerless license except through the drawing.

Hunters may apply online at www.michigan.gov/dnr or at any authorized license agent. There is a $4 non-refundable application fee. Drawing results will be available Sept. 10 beginning at 10 a.m. on the DNR Web site. Postcards to successful applicants who did not apply online will be mailed by Sept. 19. All others should check drawing results online after Sept. 10.

Private land antlerless licenses will be available over the counter beginning at 10 a.m. on Aug. 16. Hunters must provide the telephone number of the person granting permission to hunt at the time they purchase a private land antlerless. In Zone 1 (UP) and Zone 2 (northern Lower Peninsula) there is a 40 acre minimum acreage requirement for purchase of private land antlerless licenses. For each DMU, private land antlerless licenses will be available until the quota is filled. Hunters may purchase only one antlerless license per day. There is a season limit of three private land antlerless licenses per person, of which no more than two may be from Zones 1 and 2 combined.

Hunters ages 10 to 16 may purchase one antlerless license over the counter (public or private) through Aug. 15 without making an application. A youth must appear in person with a parent or guardian to purchase a Junior Antlerless Deer Hunting License.

For more information see the 2007 Michigan Antlerless Deer Hunting Guide available in stores or online at www.michigan.gov/dnr.

Is there a "direct" link to that or does one need to first apply for a hunting license? I couldn't find it!
