Now i know there is a law about keeping your gun locked up from children. And if your gun was used in some sort of crime u can be held acountable for.

i cannot seem to find it online to see exact wording. Does it include just children?

There is not really any law about it.

What there is a law that says that FFLs will have a sign to that effect. The form of the sign is on the MSP website.

Documents MSP-202_6449_7.pdf (http://www.michigan.gov/documents/msp-202_6449_7.pdf)

And if you open that, it lists a law at the bottom. When you go look up that law, you see it is the law to have a sign:

MCL 28-435 (http://legislature.mi.gov/doc.aspx?mcl-28-435)

(6) A federally licensed firearms dealer in this state shall post in a conspicuous manner at the entrances, exits, and all points of sale on the premises where firearms are sold a notice that says the following: “You may be criminally and civilly liable for any harm caused by a person less than 18 years of age who lawfully gains unsupervised access to your firearm if unlawfully stored.”.

If you go to the State website, where you can search laws, you will not be able to find a law that defines legal or illegal firearm storage. The civil part is just the basic, you can get sued for anything. In the law about the sign is a lot of requirements to insure that there is a lock for the firearm when you buy it, with no law saying that you have to use it.
