Fellow MGO'ers:

This is the BIG ONE!!!

Brought to you by MGO, MCRGO, MOC, MI-SCC and 2nd Amendment March.

When: March 20, 2013 from 10am to 2pm

Where:
Lansing, Michigan

What:
A march on the capital will be organized by MOC. We have the Capitol steps and north and south capital lawn reserved. People can visit their state representatives from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., speakers and entertainment from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and visits with their state senators from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Our preliminary expected count is 3,000 people. We have reserved a 60' x 40' tent. There will be six 6' tables in the tent, one each for MCRGO, MOC, MGO, MI-SCC and the Second Amendment March. The sixth table we'll hold in reserve for the NRA if they participate. Each group will be responsible for bringing their own materials and logos, etc. for their tables. We have a podium, flags, and banner poles (for the Second Amendment March) reserved for the Capitol steps. We have also hired a band for entertainment and a professional company in Lansing to do sound. All of the organizations will have a representative speaking, and we will also have several politicians and possibly a celebrity speaker. For the grounds, we'll have four portable bathrooms and 10 large waste containers.

Special Notes:
We also need to get the word out about responsible carry at events like this including muzzle discipline with long guns and ensuring that people aren't handling firearms such as playing around with actions, unloading and loading, etc.

MGO will be mobilizing our trailer and show kits along with merchandising. We will need volunteers for this event to work the table, and others to help with general operations. Please PM SeeTee to get on the list.

Thank You,
Jeff LaFave
MGO President

Just a thought, if we are trying to get the non gun public on our side would it be less intimidating to tone down the open display of arms. These are not gun people and we dont want turn them against us,we need their support. Again just a thought.

You can't stop it from happenning. It's a public venue, and they have the right. All we can do is emplore them to carry responsibly.

This is great! I know it has been on here about carrying something to the show, is it legal to open carry a pistol? Will you be able to meet the senators or reps while carrying? I didn't think you would be able to. Just making sure.

Is it legal? Yes.

Will you be able to meet your senators/reps while carrying? Well there's no particular law against it, but they may refuse to meet with you whether you're carrying or not.

Please invite a Rep from Gun Owners of America if you are able, they and thier President Larry Pratt have been very vocal about the 2nd Amendment and the tricks used to try to lull people to sleep on this, the most important Amendment for as we all know { I think we do?} we can not protect our other rights if we have no way to defend them, as has been the case with all disarmed peoples throughout history. Hopefully we [or later generations] will never have to use arms to defend them our Founders saw the horror of this first hand, and wrote the Constitution so we would never have to. We the people need to continue to hit them with the truth ,and beat the propaganda of lies and so our 1st Ammendment must be used to preserve our 2nd, and beat them in the Information war. [sorry didn't mean to quote Hillary haha] or preach, and hope I didn't go on too long. PS did anyone see what MI Sen. Carl Levin proposed in The US Senate? S-34 and S-35 and was the co-sponsor of the Fienstien so called Assault Weapons Bill, check it out on his website, Thanks and keep up the good work !

The point is to get the message to the politicians in Lansing that they need to be more concerned about us gun-totin' Michiganders than be concerned about the commie stooges in DC.

I'm not concerned about the non gun public.

Always remember, it's easier to attract bees with honey than it is with vinegar. We need everyone on our side, not just gun owners. There are many people on the fence about this and it's our job to sway them to our side.

Some people can be intimidated by guns and for us to not be mindful of that may not be in our best interests. We have to think about the whole, not just one small part.

Are there any specific talking points that we want to follow when we meet withour reps and Senators? Specific being the main things we want them to be working to achieve for us?

PFZ removal, parking lot storage in vehicles, registration removal, centralizing CPL issuance, etc.?

What should be our main issues to bring to ALL of their attention?

Do we need to make an appointment with our Reps? or will they be expecting us?

Elimination of PFZ's is a top priority, followed closely by the bill to allow carry in schools (broken out from the current PFZ removal legislation). The reps are all expecting us. We actually scheduled them to be there to talk to you.

I will be there.... I don't want to hear any crying about the weather...

BE THERE.

I mean, I can understand if you don't come... it's not like there are politicians actively trying to take away your rights.... I mean, I would think people would come if they were doing things like banning magazines over 7 rounds. I would think that you would want to be heard if they were passing bans all over the country.... I mean, you would come then right? It's not like they're actually doing stuff like that now though...

Wait... what's that you say?

I'll be there- I'm interested in what people are doing in terms of carrying firearms. I'll definitely be OC'ing my handgun, but what you're saying is it's probably not a good idea to OC my AR as well?

You can OC your long gun if you wish... no one's going to tell you not to. Just be mindful of your muzzle. Personally I feel like muzzle down is proper for urban carry... not down and to the side... DOWN... as in STRAIGHT DOWN.

I will be OCing a long gun.

Of the links posted in the earler in the thread,
The closest is the last one listed, it does not allow guns, it is at S. Capitol ave and W.Allegan.

The next closest, is the first link of the three gun friendly lsted, it is on Townsend st. just south of w.allegan about 1~1-1/2 block to the Capitol.
it is the closest, unless you find a street parking meter around the Capitol itself, their are other events in the Capitol that day and that maybe hard to find.

Head count was just under 1100 (1080). That was from start to finish (people come and go). There could have been more, because the count was taken as people arrived coming from the Michigan Ave entrance to the Capitol. Some came from the east of the Capitol. I talked to a lady who counted everybody just before the marchers arrived, and then counted the marchers and anybody who arrived up until 11am.

So, all in all, not a bad showing considering. Keep in mind, that the politicians know EXACTLY how many people each person in attendence represents given the day of week, weather conditions, and time that the event is held. There is a formula for such things. So, if we had 1100 people show today, and their "multiplier" is 16.2, then they know that those people represented 17,820 people. Don't ever think that the number of people is the big issue. Those politicians know how to crunch numbers...trust me!!!

I was very proud of the event, and am very thankful for all you members who stepped up to help pull this off. You are to be commended!!! Hat's off to you!!!

Had a great time at the rally today. I enjoyed meeting and talking with all my fellow MGO members. Thanks to everyone who contributed their time to the cause. ABC 12 News had some good footage of the MGO banner during the march.

Was there but I am having trouble posting pics. The idiot that tried to interrupt ticked me off but he got to leave with a cop. I do have to give props to the man with the balls to hold the obama gun control sign. I might not agree with him but he stood there while a lot of opposition to him walk past. Also have to mention the supporting waves the police gave during the march and the cars and trucks hitting the horns. Gotta love the Semi driver that let out the air horn when the Dont Tread On Me flag passed by.

I'm not sure but I think you need at least 10 posts to upload photos.

Does anyone have pics to post? Thoroughly enjoyed meeting many fellow MGO members and proud to have signed up at least 4 new members, how many did we get total?

I have pictures but can't post them due to me not having 10 posts yet.

I didn't sign up with you guys at your table but I did stop by and talk with one of you. I have been stopping by this forum for a while now but I never registered. I figured what the heck and signed up today. Not being able to see all the pages and links was starting to really bug me anyway lol.

Myself and a friend were at the rally, good to see all the support for our rights and some fine looking AR's. Lets keep the pressure on our lawmakers so we don't end up like CO or NY. Great peaceful event.

Nice to see and talk with some of you yesterday. SAFR appreciates the mention durng the MGO president's speech. Thank You! I was up on the 2nd floor of the Capital building when the Governor walked through. There were at least 4 people up there at the time with slung rifles and not an eye was batted. Think of that the next time you have to go through a metal detector to enter your county courthouse. Liberty is an incredibly powerful thing that scares the beejeebers out of both the left and the right.
Kudos to the organizers and speakers. A job well done.

1100 people? Ill take that!...I figured it was about half that.

Glad to see it was a fair turn out. I didn't really see anybody I know per say, but rather a lot of people I recognized from here or their.

I love the guy with the dancing dogs! That was funny/cool.
