Any word on a safe under $500? I was looking around Gander today, and found a Centurion by Liberty for $500, it held up to 18 guns, and had a 20 minute fire rating.
I know Gander Mountain is pretty high priced so I am looking for other options for less than $500. I am located in Kalamazoo, but willing to travel a reasonable distance to look. I would need it shipped since I can't carry it.

Tractor Supply in Battle creek stocks a Cannon safe. Holds 24 guns, 30 minute fire rating, but it costs $550.

Watch Walmart's ads. Every once in a while they have a Stock-On safe (not cabinet) for around $300. Its a pretty good value for the money.

I think they are going to be the best bet for prices. I'm going to keep watching them, or dunhams for the coupons.

if your goal is security, then you might as well buy a snap-on locker for that price range. If your goal is fire safety, then there are some above options.

I was considering this one, I'm looking for fire security, and security in general.

Check out the champion model T (http://www.championsafe.com/products_model-t.html). You have to call around dealers but you can find them around $650. One of the best bets in the price range.

If you watch the ads and wait, dunhams will run decent prices on their Cannon Safari safes. I have both the 24 and 36 gun from them, on sale they run $400-600, closer to 600 for the 36.

Also check tractor supply, they do 0% financing on safes.

I will warn about the Cannon Safaris. They are short safes, they can suck for long guns. I have a bunch of Mosins and I can't use the supplied center divider or the top shelf is too short. You can go without a center divider or do like I did and make a new one out of MFD board and felt.

I also won't recommend the 24 gun Safari because it's a very cramped safe. You know how the shelves have those grooves for each gun? The safari has 3 rows per side. With the 24 gun you can't use the front row, there's not enough room for the butt stock, the door will hit it.

The 36 gun Safari is actually pretty roomy, you might actually be able to fit 36 in there if you do it right.

This will make you want to spend at least $1,000 on a safe.

If I spend $1100 there's no way it can be broken/damaged/opened/burned?

Yes if you spend $1,000 dollars the safes are impenetrable, even to bunker buster weapons delivered by the military. :lollol: just kiddin. No matter how much you spend nothing is complete protection. BUT, the old addage you get what you pay for can be observed to a certain point. Make sure you do some comparison shopping, whats the fire rating, what type of seal is around the door, what is the metal thickness of the exterior walls? There is much more but educate yourself and then compare. Just because someone charges $1000.00 for something doesn't always mean you are getting a better product than the person selling for $500.00. Just research & see whats the difference between the products. Price can be a big factor in your ability to make a purchase, any additional security is better than nothing. Asking opinions is sometimes valuable, but often in online forums it ends up in a Ford vs. Chevy type debate.
