I thought I remembered a bigger one from a trip I was on years ago.

Wisconsin DNR: http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/fishing/musky/index.html

The muskellunge (Esox masquinongy) is one of Wisconsin's most important and unique trophies. It is so highly valued that the State Legislature proclaimed it the official State Fish in 1955. More world records have been landed in Wisconsin than anywhere else. The current state and world record is a tremendous 69 pounds and 11 ounce fish taken from the Chippewa Flowage.

Surprised it was Lake Bellaire.

That lake is up near the top of the Chain 'O Lakes, that I'm on, but it is better known for some decent Walleye.

I think this is the last record holder that was caught a few years ago, in Torch Lake.

I saw tis article from MUCC. If there is a 69#er on record how can this 58# be a record?? Maybe the catcher of the 69# didnt jump thru all the hoops.

58# and 58"--1#/inch-average. Several inches of the tail make the middle much heavier. When a fish of this class gets a couple inches longer, it also gets an inch or so fatter/thicker. That is especially noticable in walleyes.

The coloration of those two fish varies quite a bit.

Way back in the mid 80s the DNR blessed us with tiger muskies at the expense of all other fish. Now we get a few walleyes every 3 to 4 years. They keep the perch down to a uncatchable level.
