Meter maids?

Not quite. These are county enforcement units for oversize loads, etc.

why not allow them to carry, as a mater of policy... VS another LAW or legislation?

Well, the current law in place prohibits them from being able to carry - I'd imagine that since they have some law-enforcement duties, but aren't cops, there's some liability issues at hand, which is why the MSP probably lobbied for it (but then this law has been in place for some 60 years so who knows)

Let them practice open carry. That is what MSP suggests to the rest of us that can't, or don't want to, get a cpl.

Right now they can't even do that.

I had to go looking. This is exactly the same as another bill that was introduced by the same Senator last year. It just looked familiar.
The last attempt died in committee.

This one I'll stand back on, I don't care one way or the other if they can carry as a cop or with a CPL.
I think everybody should be able to carry anyway.

This law would only help these few county employees. I agree that rather than setting up a new class of citizen this law should be written to benefit ALL government employees that are denied their 2A rights by employment policy.

The way I am reading it, the employee would have to be MCOLES certified. A position this would fit would be what I saw on an employment posting on the State of Michigan website. I don't remember the exact title of the posting, but it was similar to an MCO, but was in the inner city areas and was not performing traffic stops (like an MCO would). My understanding is that this employee would perform commercial vehicle inspections at the locations where they are stored (like bus garages and such). If the MSP was the one pushing this, carrying would make sense for this type of position. I understand this is bill is for county road commissions, but maybe they also have similar positions locally.

Does that make sense, or am I in left field?

Nope, you are out in left field. It is an either/or. Either MCOLES certified OR w/CPL.

There are both MSP weight masters and County weight masters. This bill will only affect the County guys, which don't have to be MCOLES certified, the MSP guys are. All of those sections listed that they enforce are for things like weight, width, placards, etc....

The guys that go around and do the commercial inspections, are a contracted company. They will write up problems, but you won't get a "ticket" unless it is still broke at the next inspection. They do report their inspections.

Government emp are the problem. They want all kinds of
special' exemptions to all kinds of laws.

Write it to benefit ALL EMPLOYEES not just those at the tit.
