After setting up my girfriends HD rig (1100 20ga) she wanted a good place to store it.

after some thought i decided to cut into the wall. I built this mirror, which only stick off the wall 1 inch. Figuring that a lock would give it away, I installed 50lb magnets and plates to the mirror frame itself, needless to say it takes a condierable amount of force to open it up. and just by looking at it one cant tell it is anything other than a victorian style mirror.

I have a 2nd one just about done, just need to fill in some gaps and install the mirror. Interior will hold an AR 2 clicks from fully collapsed and it has a self that will fit 30 mags upright.

Wanted to put this one in our spare bedromm but the lil woman had other ideas.

Great idea, out of sight can't be found.

Have a "reach-in" closet? Reach inside your closet over the top of the door and retrieve whatever object you choose to hide up there. Open up and finish that space with a little lumber and you have a great hiding spot that is very easy to access yet very unlikely to be found by prying eyes.

If not handy, Red says you must be good looking, or something like that.

To the OP,

What are you connecting the magnets with? Glue?

And did you just router out a groove for the mirror?

The magnet is counter sunk in and it had a taper hole through it so i put a screw through it.

for the mirror grove, used a table saw as it gave me a 2.5 inch rabbit vs my 3/4 max from a router bit. You will want plenty of wood overlap on your mirror.

Ah, Thank You!!

And if I may bother you some more, does the bottom of the mirror frame "hang" (and Slide) Or does it slide in the "box" you connected to the wall? (it's cut off in the phote.)

Edit: Now that I look at your bottom photo, I must assume the mirror frame slides over (Technically inside) the wall box... Correct? (And thanks again!!)

It depends... what's your primary reason for the safe?

Is it to meet the storage requirement in MA?

Is it to protect from kids getting access?

Is it to protect from theft?

Is it to protect from fire?
