There is something about a row boat and an entire lake to yourself. Catching smallmouth every other cast doesn't hurt either.

nice... thanks for the invite! lol.

i used to do fly ins every other year. haven't done it in a while and have that bug. unfortunately with the money situation, i'm trying to find a good drive in and some buddies that wouldn't mind dropping some cash on a fishing trip.

Plenty of lakes in our area you just need to show up. We catch the majority of our wallys from shore using nothing more than a minnow and bobber. This lake is about 500 acres. Perfect for a small row boat.

The only sound I heard was loons, no motor vehicles or outboards.

Looks like a good lake for pike too!

What I thought, but never landed one. Locals say this isn't a pike lake. Plenty of pike lakes in the area, but his isn't one.

MDNR officer tolf me lakes with high populations of smallmouth prevent pike from establishing. He said walleye and smallies do well together, but not pike.

Plenty of perch, rock bass and an occasional trout through the ice.

Might have to pick your brain.

Smallies in this area taste better than walleye, seriously.

The lake is my grocery store.

Never thought about it that way, but it makes sense that high bass populations could keep pike numbers down or non-existent in a smaller body of water; however, it doesn't work that way on Lake St. Clair. In any event, it looks like you have a little slice of heaven at your disposal!

Now that comment is just sacrilegious!

Wouldn't say it if it wasn't true and I'm not the only one at our table to come to the same conclusion. We cook them side by side and the smallie wins.

Down here its a different story.

have talked to other guys about this (I've never tried I, but now want to) who would put smallmouth and pike (if deboned the right way) are better than walleye

Of the three fish you mention, my vote is walleye #1, pike #2, and bass #3. I will say however, I have slipped in boneless pike fillets with a mess of walleye and no one has caught on yet. In fact, to a man, no one has believed me when I told him or her that he or she had just finished eating pike.

Walking out the door for another four days.

Smallmouth and walleye will be on the menu.

I called the boss Monday afternoon asking for another day off.

The fishing was too easy and the freezer is well stocked.
