MGO RSO Class in Novi

The details have been set for the MGO east side RSO class. It will be held on Sunday August 18th at Gander Mountain in Novi and will begin at 10am and go until 4pm. This class will be offerred at NO CHARGE, PROVIDED that anyone who takes this class volunteers to work at least one of our shooter clinics or fun shoots within one calendar year. I will have a sign up sheet at the class. All materials, and registration fees will be covered. Please PM me to reserve a spot in the class.

Just a few things to note;

There are no fees for the class*

The class is open to all, however,

MGO paying members get preference to the seats in the class, when they are filled they are filled.

You must be 21 to be an RSO, this is a NRA rule. We ask that you be 21 to take the class.

You need not be a NRA member to take the class or become a RSO

Hats, patches, vests are not included with the class.

*The NRA fee is $11 for members, $26 for non-NRA members- MGO is paying the first $11, non-NRA members will have to cover the rest of the fee or become NRA members.

This is the NRA Range Safety Officer ( RSO ) course.
Covers shooting range safety procedures & practices
On the successful completion of the course and test you summit your application fee to the NRA and receive credentials as a certified range safety officer.

MGO is sponsoring this course to further grow a core of RSO's to assist MGO to provide range safety at our fun shoots and at the new shooter education programs.

IIRC for NRA members $11 non-members $26 for the first year after that when you renew, you can get a discount for renewing the cert. for multiple years at a time.

Checking into a few things, there may have been some changes to the program and the op will be updated.

The last one we did was 2 or 3 years ago, so there was quite a gap since we last did one. I would not object to doing another in the winter if you guys can guarantee us at least 10 participants, and I prefer to see 15-30 (I teach them free of charge for MGO, so I want to make sure we're getting a LOT of RSO's before I commit). Additionally, you need to ask the BoD in the "Ask the BoD" section to sponsor another one. This is not a cheap endeavor (student packets, processing fees, certification fees, food for the students, etc...), and we only offer them to get the help we need to pull off our educational shooting clinics to get people involved in the shooting sports. Get a poll together, solicit the students, and ask the BoD. That is the order to get one on the schedule. Keep in mind though, that if the BoD agrees to do it, the participants MUST sign up to help at one or more events within the next year for MGO so that the Org benefits from what was invested in getting you the credentials.

This was the kind of class that every shooter would benefit from, regardless of the certification. Barrettone has a wealth of knowledge and experience, and a great talent for presentation.

I hope the opportunities to serve as RSO are well posted so we can fulfill our end of the bargain. I don't wanna have a year go by and leave this hanging.

Few of us just took the RSO cert over here in the Grand Rapids area at West Walker Sportsmens Club. MGO and WWSC put on the event today, free of charge.

SO MUCH information to take in but well worth the time. I highly recommend taking the RSO class if MGO puts on more of them. Looking forward to helping out!

He had not added the 5 NRA ID numbers that we needed so I had to make some calls and PM's to get those.

I was going to mail them out this morning and decided to call the NRA to make sure I had everything I needed to send them in, upon talking to the NRA Representative he looked up to see if there had been a "Course Report" sent in, and you guessed it, there wasn't one sent in.

I got in contact with Jeff and told him that without the Course Report being filed online, the NRA would just mail them back to me.

Jeff, was out of town and said he would file the course report this weekend.
I will shoot them out as soon as I get notification that it has been completed.

I have been in contact with the NRA on this matter and have talked to them a couple of times just to make sure what Jeff has told me has been done, has been done. So far everything has been varified that I have been told.

The Course Report has been submitted as He said it was. The NRA needed to have the "Class Roster" submitted and this is why he required more information from me, since I now have the attendees packages from the class.

Jeff, in my opinion is a very good Instructor and keeps his Classes Interesting and informative. I believe he just got caught up in everything and is trying to catch up.

Thanks Mike. I was able to speak with Richard, and he informed me that they don't mail out the certs anymore, and that I was supposed to go to nrainstructors.org and print them off. I explained to him that I took my class through MGO, and that the others in my class are receiving their certs in the mail. The certificate is mainly black and white, with a blue watermark of the NRA seal, offset to the right side (only part of the logo is showing on the page).

Apparently Richard didn't know what he was talking about. My color certificate and wallet card came in today's mail :)
