I have Severe hearing loss and wear over the ear hearing aids. If I take my aids out and wear standard hearing protection I cant hear anything, bang from gun or someone yelling cease fire.

Any suggestions??

Perhaps these

or these

http://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-R-01902-Electronic-Shooting-Earmuffs/dp/B007BGSI5U/ref=pd_cp_hi_1 (more reduction, larger size, higher price)

Your aids will probably fit in either

Not to hijack the thread, but what do you mean "pretty loud"? Should one look at wearing them in conjunction with plugs?
I was looking at ordering these next week actually.
Someone at HG1 & 2 had these and liked them.

The howard leights can actually amplify range commands, conversations while still blocking out the firearm sounds, plus you can plug in a mp3 player which helps when mowing the lawn. you can adjust the volume of ambient noise to your liking.

The peltors do not amplify the ambient noise as much but they are much more streamlined and work better when shooting a rifle. you can not hook up a mp3 player to them.

Either one works good in bullseye competitions for hearing the range commands. during competitions where there is a lot of gunfire, I double them up with ear plugs (both models). the peltors fit my head better.

I am a normal shooter with a good case of tinnitus, the ringing of the ears.

Generally I use the peltors unless I want to listen to a mp3 to relax and slow my heartbeat down.

I was referring to the amplification. I should have clarified.

get the Pro Ears brand hearing protection. They are expensive as hell, but what is your hearing worth. You will like them once you get them.

I even wear these hunting, I can hear a deer coming much sooner and prepare myself

MSA Sordin Supreme noise cancelling headsets should allow you to keep your hearing aids on and hear someone yelling cease fire. Available on eBay for $150. I know because I sell them on eBay for $150. The ones I have have a microphone and cable for radio connection. Both can be cut off with not affect on the headset. I have a set I use for shooting and hunting. They amplify normal sounds as well as protect from loud noises like gun fire.

I like the Howard Light Impact muffs.

As previously stated above:
These would probably be good for you because they amplify surrounding noise, but block the gunfire.

+1. These work great, and the price is also great. I paid ~$30 shipped on amazon.
