JPL Investments of Las Vegas has patented a nightstand designed to provide a homeowner quick access to his/her self defense pistol:

It appears to be a modest improvement is accessibility to the standard nightstand drawer, but no improvement in securing firearms from children and other unauthorized users. Would you purchase such a nightstand?

this looks stupid as hell.
how is it different from taking an existing nightstand and cutting an arc into the side of a drawer?

Not so much. I've found an under the desk holster mounted under my night stand drawer is fantastic. Very easy access and can't be seen.

I use a V-line pistol safe with a Simplex lock. I bought extra travel drawer slides so the middle nightstand drawer comes way out and filled the bottom drawer with weight plates so it's stable even with a fairly heavy pistol safe extended out. As you can see, I like my home defense guns a little on the old school simple side.

A friend had his/hers nights stands with small safes stolen. The thiefs took the whole night stand. If you're going to use such a device you'd better bolt the whole thing down.

I would think that the furniture shown would keep the kiddes out but past that I wouldn't bet on them.

I have a similar arrangement with a v-Line. Just to deter the curious. No illusions about defeating burglars. But it's a great lock box.

It also doesn't keep ice cream frozen or sing me a lullaby.

Theft prevention isn't really the point here. There are lots of things in my house worth more than an old .38 Ruger, that I don't have bolted down.

The 10 lbs of crap from the nightstand are on the bed just out of camera shot. ..along with the lemon Pledge & dust rag.

Everything was promptly shoveled back into place after the picture was taken, lol.
