Hello, all.
I just picked up a used Springfield Armory Champion. It seems to be very well made and in very good condition. I believe it is an older model, because it does not have the integrated locking device.

One thing I noticed is that, when the hammer is pulled back to the first position, the hammer will drop when the grip safety is engaged and the trigger is pulled.

The manual mentions the Safety Stop feature on the handgun and also states that the purpose is to stop the hammer from falling on the firing pin accidentally while dropping the hammer to decock.

So, my question: is this normal behavior for the Springfield Champion?

By the way, I also have asked the question to Springfield Armory.

If there are any Springfield Champion owners out there, I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
Dan

Hey Dan, I have a reply for you :-D

The handgun is operating just as designed. The Springfields that have a 1/4 cock setting will drop the hammer, but there is not enough force to set off a round. Those that have a 1/2 cock setting should not drop the hammer.

Hope this helps!

That's great news, Dan.

I feel a lot more comfortable using the handgun now.
